    Stupid question... Define classic?

What age do you start to define classic?
I got a set of Drastic Plastic hard Corp Space marines I got in the early '90's. Are the '90's now called classic or are they still modern?

I've never actually seen those, surprised they got made.

I guess 1990 is considered classic now, when did I get old?

Classic: anything that happened before YOU were born.

Classic: 2nd definition: a word to use if you're selling on ebay to make your stuff appear to be worth more than it is.
      Also see: Rare, Vintage

Yeah, but I'm 42 and everything in the classic section is after I've been born. So I wondered if early '90's now falls under classic.

I read about them in a lengthy entry in my action figure guides.

Classic. How about before the companies got involved and started manipulating things , ( like they did in comics)
            Before Collecting got HUGE ?

Okay lets admit were getting old. How about Pre Spawn. or Pre Power of the Force 2 Definition has to be fluid like "modern"

            POST CLASSIC AGE ?

I can get pics if you would like to see them, they are AWESOME!

Only a few hundred sets got made and they are all in resin. I pre ordered my set when it was first announced in Tomarts Digest in '90 for $99 for the set, then it went up to $199 a set after they were released. I've even got a couple casts of prototypes from David Reeves as a peace offering when I threatened to sick the BBB on him to get my set in '92 or '93. I also bought two figures of "Wave two" from David Reeves that have never been produced and offered to the general public other then 25-50 tops.

While I like to flush much of the 1990s, this was the first attempt to do a designer adult toy line. I'd love to see photos.

They are a great design and idea for the line, I just wish David could have gotten the line off the ground, it had a lot of potential.

I'll try to get pics in the next day or so and put them in the modern section.

I can't imagine any "toy" line aimed at adult collectors ever being a "classic" toy (I have a hard time even calling things like that "toys").....

I think somewhere in the late 80s you can find the end of the classic plastic toy era. An era which ran from the mid 50's thru the late 80's. I think there is a real continuity there...After that grown ups started taking over and it was over...kids moved on to technology.....

Once toys became conscious of themselves, they died.....

                        25 years is my barometer.

anything older than 25 years is 'vintage'. Classic means "Timeless" though.

nobody will consider "DC Bloodlines" to be a classic no matter how old it gets.

Exactly! I fell the same way. Most of the great figures currently made are sold as instant "collectibles". The GI Joes, Big Jims, Monsters and Megos I grew up with were simply toys and later became collectible, JOHN

I agree about the Spawn/POTF being the turning point for where toys became self aware that they weren't playthings anymore and were made for something more sinister....display and money.

The most recent toys that I consider "classic" are the first few waves of the Batman the Animated Series stuff. I just got into the line and dove in head first. They are definitely made for play, but have a GREAT look to them as well. I have toys in my collection that were only intended for display (DC Direct stuff...), but the stuff I LOVE are my star trek playmates, Batman, vintage star wars and G.I.Joe stuff....

And you can tell by the current prices of the 90s star wars figures and spawn figures that MANY people feel the same way....you can't GIVE those toys away.

I will argue the case for one lone character out of the dozens spat out by DC during Bloodlines.
