Takatoku's Macross toys (later re-released by Bandai, and a few by Matchbox as ROBOTECH) from the first half of the 1980s. The best would be the 1/55 Variable Valkyrie toys, specifically the Super VF-1S.

My favorite robot toys didn't get made until Trendmasters put out the Lost in Space robot and Robby the robot years ago. It seems alot of kids didn't have the product to choose from back in the day. At least not really good product anyway. They had to grow up and run these toy companies themselves so these could get made.

Shogun Warriors/Jumbo Machinders hands down. Nothing beats a two foot tall robot that shoots missiles.

The only robot I had as a kid was the 1976 Durham Industries Robot 2500:

                            http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tkdNFM6loWQ

I had the silver one. Took me quite awhile to track it down as an adult, since I only had an image of it in my head with no other particulars.
