I think it's a matter of personal opinion...do you like crunchy or smooth peanut butter? I prefer Castaway personally.

Cat does that make us crunchy or smooth. I prefer smooth. I look at it this way, there's no right or wrong decision. If you want a good quality figure that looks just like mego made them Doc is the way to go. If you want a figure that gives a nod to vintage mego's with a few extras I would go with the castaway body. Sometimes when I'm working on customs I want them to be just like mego made them other times I want them to look totally different. The main thing is you buy what you like that fits in with your collecting style. It all boils down to what you like.

I prefer the castaway body, since I like to customize, imo it gives the figure a little more curves.

The thing that grabs me is the bigger Shoulders & swivel Biceps. The only thing that bums me out is the Flesh color is way to dark. So I end up making a CAW/Doc Mego hybrid. So...they "both" get my Money.

Yep, the body color... and the smell. Otherwise I love the Castaway bodies.

But really, both Castaway and Doc bodies are quality products. I think they both have their uses.

I would have to go with CAT.
After recently working on some CAT/DM hybrids, I have to say DM's are pretty subpar in comparison to CAT. Not sure how many folks have actually broken down the bodies and compared the pieces, including the metal swivels inside the body. Don't know why the metal in DM are lower quality but the rubber bands are very nice compared to CAT.
CAT pins are easy to removed and switch while DM you have to boil the joints to remove the pins. Makes them more secure and less prone to breaking but some of the pins on DM bodies are brittle, as recently discovered. I guess it comes when casting small plastic pieces. Minute air pockets that get inside the molding process of the small plastic parts.
The torso on DM bodies ARE beefy and thick. Feels good to hold one.
As for tightness on DM bodies, you would need to adjust the rubber band on the metal swivels so it sits right and gives enough slack to move more. Loose means internal adjusting.
CAT need better bands or you can always go and replace them with tighter ones.
I use shock cord to string up my bodies with blending of metal swivels. Works great.

So both have their pros and cons. Depends on what is your flavor.

What smell? I like CAW ones, but there is nothing wrong with Docs either. I just prefer the swivel biceps.

It's just the plastic smell, I'm sure... but it seems more pungent than with the other guys. My comment was mostly tongue in cheek... they air out just fine... but I just got a box of bodies in the mail the other day, and I was reminded just how stinky they can be!

I was pretty nostalgic to the MEGO "slappy " hands but to be honest. Stiff hands in a weird pose, and non swivel biceps was always a complaint I had about original MEGOS.

So the legs and body are cool too?

I'll look at the difference between the Torsos Elderett. Some guys I would prefer a slighter torso.
No problems on the feet? Sometimes I hear about people remeoving CAW feet to fit boots?

I like them both I have way more DM bodies but as long as they are not CTVT bodies those fall apart and are crap. I love the CAW bodies with the arm swivel. I just ordered from DOC and CAW last week.

I prefer the CAT bodies because of the greater possibility of the arms. No disrespect for the Emce/Doc bodies, but I had two of them break on me on the same shoulder area. I was just trying to raise the arms to about 90 degrees sideways and the the plastic that support the metal hook just broke. Maybe I'm just not lucky.

It's not you...it's common for the Doc Mego Bodies to split at the Torso, and the Arms to get sucked inside. IMO, there's two reasons for this...one is the type of Plastic the Torso is made of...and the other is that they are strung to tightly.

If the Doc torsos were one piece instead of glued together two piece torsos, the split wouldn't happen. Too bad Doc can't seem to get the factory to fis this issue. Khan, Sulu and the Andorian I have all have the problem.

I have a DM white body where the torso is solid and heavy. No chance of it splitting. I guess it all depends on the bodies. I know the brown and flesh bodies are weak in the torso seams and do split.
As for the tightening, if one is able to pull the arm out and manage to adjust the band properly on the flat portion of the metal swivel, it will loosen it a bit.
I did this on TrueDaves body hybrid and worked out great and better pose ability.
