    1979 Palitoy Star Wars Catalog

UK kids weren't immune to the awesome, corrupting influence of George Lucas and got Star Wars Mania every bit as bad as we did here in North America.

There were of course, subtle differences as evidenced in this 1979 toy catalog by Palitoy, UK distributor for the Kenner line. Among them you'll notice several exclusives (like the deathstar in the header) and fun prototype items that eventually were changed before release.

In addition to the catalog pages, we also have some cool shots of my pal Bill Frost's carded Palitoy collection, click on any image to be transported to the 1979 Palitoy Star Wars Catalog.

    niiiice.

I like the bug eyed DSD. And the trashcan lid R5 unit is great as well.
I've seen shots of those in other places, but I don't think I have ever seen the Adventure People Luke before. He looks like he has an awful crick in his neck. Must be really uncomfortable sleeping in that Xwing.

As a SW nut, i can verify these are the pitch protos for the second wave....odd that they were used in the Palitoy catalouge...Thanks so much for sharing!

Mitch. It's a prototype. The one we got here was the same as the US version.

I'd love to figure out who the bug eyed head belonged to - the body is just a regular C3P0 with a paint job.

That Death Star is interesting. Was it essentially entirely cardboard - except for the guns on top - or was there some plastic holding that ship together? Not that the US Death Star didn't have a lot of cardboard pieces in it - that toy was huge and so much fun.

As far as i can remember the Death Star was all cardboard with plastic clips holding it together,a nitemare if you got it wet

When I was in London about a year ago, I had the privilege of seeing (and holding!) Bill's Palitoy Star Wars collection. Absolutely delicious, and part of the reason I have about 70 more carded Star Wars figures today then I owned at the time of my visit (which was none!).

It's something only a collector could understand - seeing something like that and feeling the 'need'.

It's a good job Bill doesn't have boobs and it wasn't them you were holding - just imagine explaining your sudden desire to buy loads of bra's

I THINK it was from the Gigantics: Praying Mantis model kit.

I can remember seeing those prototype figures in early SW mini-catalogs that came with the toys, I could never understand (at the time) why the Walrus Man looked so different from mine, lol.

That Imperial Troop Transport is faaaaantastic lookin'. They really shouldn't have changed it for the actual production piece.
