Aurora PREHISTORIC SCENES at Toy Museum in Wheeling, WV

The Kruger Street Toy & Train Museum - home of MegoMeet! - invited me to display my Aurora Prehistoric Scenes collection for a couple months, alongside a selection of classic Marx dinosaur toys. On Sunday I went out and took a good four hours to fill two display cases in the 'rotating collection' room, after spending a couple of weeks pulling the stuff out of storage, stripping and trimming up kits I hadn't done much work on, and organizing things.

    Below are pics!

Dude, Congrats. That is so cool. The perfect place to show them off. Wow, that T-Rex is a mighty big boy.

Man, that red TRex just makes me weep. That is a very nice display. Once again I wish I was a little closer to WV.

                NEAT!

You've even got some of the old Lifelike/Pyro/Lindberg dino kits in there! I've been trying to find out more info on those kits, but haven't had a lot of luck. (Was purple the original colour?) I'm especially curious about three dioramas they did (T-Rex, Stegosaurus and I THINK Triceratops) that were no doubt inspired by the Aurora kits. (I remember similar paperwork.)

Even had cavemen fighting dinos. The Lindberg Brontosaurus I got back in the 90's had one of the cavemen with it. (Which is the only way I remember who made the dioramas.)

What an awesome set-up, you must've had a ball doing that.
And what an honour to have your collection displayed at a toy museum, especially one with such a big Mego connection. Will the collection still be on display at Mego Meet?

Great collection, love the big TRex. I used to have him. :(

The collection won't be up for MegoMeet, unfortunately.

It'll be replaced with several cases of Micronauts...

I don't know about the diorama editions, but several of these were released recently. Haven't picked them up, unfortunately.

The Bronto actually has 2 cave-people in it, but I wouldn't be surprised if one might occasionally have gotten lost in factory packing. The sprue setup for these kits is awful! I've got unbuilt Life-Like samples of the Stego (cast in metallic gray), Triceratops (purple) and the Bronto you see here. The - and the same ones I had in my childhood - all still have Pyro logos and legal lines in their tooling. From my childhood set, I still have my T-Rex, Bronto, Triceratops, Stego and Protoceratops (which was one of the best of the line, I'd say!). I'll have to take a shot of them. I'm in need of a couple of parts to complete one or two of them, though.

Oh yeah! I have really fond memories of that one; but I'm not sure why.

They seem to come around every so often; although the new ones have updated names for a lot of 'em. The dioramas weren't around very long, and I don't remember a lot about them. (The dinos were painted brown with yellow stomachs on the box.)
