Weird Mego musings: vintage Green Lantern

So, this is the kind weird thing I mull over when I have insomnia, which is too damn often:

How unfair is it that we got Long John Silver from Green Arrow (or vice-versa), but Mego never thought to tweak Galahad/Will Scarlet into Hal Jordan?

I love that Galahad sculpt, it's a handsome, versatile sculpt. I've used it for Dr. Jekyll, Billy the Kid, and Dr. Hasslein.
WANTED: Dick Grayson SI trousers; gray AJ Mustang horse; vintage RC Batman (Bruce Wayne) head; minty Wolfman tights; mint Black Knight sword; minty Launcelot boots; Lion Rock (pale) Dracula & Mummy heads; Lion Rock Franky squared boots; Wayne Foundation blue furniture; Flash Gordon/Ming (10") unbroken holsters; CHiPs gloved arms; POTA T2 tan body; CTVT/vintage Friar Tuck robes, BBP TZ Burgess Meredith glasses.

I know, right? lol. All you need is a Galahad head and a gray suit. Corny in a space-suit is easy, but fashionable Zira and Armando are tough.

I am sure the answer is out there, but I always wondered how Green Arrow, who did not have his own comic at the time, got a figure but Green Lantern didn't? This is a fine question....

I'm glad for Green Arrow, he was a childhood favorite and it's a really beautiful figure. But yes, I'd love to know the specifics of Mego's R & D/marketing decisions. No Flash or Green Lantern, but a late wave of Teen Titans? Very weird, especially considering that GL was depicted on the Hall of Justice playset.

in conversation around these parts, it's been theorized that it's because of this earliest Superfriends appearance during the 73-74 season, at which point the show was cancelled before it's rerun season two years later and the revival of the show in a new incarnation (sans Wendy and Marvin). Green Lantern did not show up on the Superfriends until the all new 77-78 series, as a guest before becoming a regular in the 78-79 Challenge series. Someone correct me if I am misremember, but at that point in time, I believe Mego had started downsizing the line-up of characters released.

Flash and Plastic Man on the other hand, also guess starred in the 73-74 season. Why they never made the line-up?

yep - and though GA had costume changes through the years, the Mego figure looks like it is modeled after this version.

You lead a very interesting life sir.

But yeah, that makes sense why Green Arrow made the cut. But man, when I was a teenager and trying to sort out Mego's output, it always mystified me that they made a Green Arrow and a Speedy, but a Kid Flash with no Flash. For quite awhile I was almost sure that they had to have made a Flash and I just missed seeing one.

Mego Green Arrow's box features Toth SF artwork, which is directly inspired by the 1969 Brave and the Bold #85 makeover designed by Neal Adams. As far as I know, this costume/facial hair change was the first make-over for the Emerald Archer.

Neal Adams also did the art for the Mego Hall of Justice playset that features Green Lantern. I can concede the SF inspiriation for including GA, but as Sam noted, why not then Flash or Plastic Man? Why not GL after the playset tease? And why Kid Flash as a TT with no Flash? So many questions...

I love Mego wave 3, but it's always seemed strange to me that it had only one DC guy and 5 Marvels. Admittedly, Marvel had some catching up to do after the Gals and Foes assortments.

Who did GA's voice in that? Sounds familiar.
