    FTC bodies...

Am I unlucky, or are their figures just overall on the poor side when it comes to quality? I haven't ordered anything yet that I was completely satisfied with. I can never keep the arms in socket on their stock bodies.

Overall poor quality. The bungee cords are either too tight, or rotten throughout. Many here have to restring them, or transfer the heads to other bodies.

I own lots of FTC figures and have had very few issues with them. I found the BBP bodies used for SMDM and BSG were much more poor.

their closer to a mego body then all others ,i know a lot of people hate them ,but i like them just fine ,i dont like the early stuff ,but the made in china bodies are ok
the female bodies are so so ,if they did them exactly the same as mego i would like them better ,their a bit to tight and those stubles around the joints are a pain in the
rump sometimes in posing .if i had these bodies on figures as a kid ,they wouldnt last long with heavy play ,but neither did some megos ,especially the type ones, but
i have a lot of FTC figures ,and just posing for display or keep in the package i have had no problems .

The body on the Wonder Woman I received this weekend broke in half as I was taking her out of the package. Chest split right along the seams. The left leg was glued to the pelvis.

Luckily I was already planning on upgrading her body to a Mattel female body.

I just don't understand how, when we're paying $25-30 a figure, there could still be these kinds of issues fairly regularly. It boggles the mind.

I find the arms being too tight to be an issue on EMCE and FTC to varying degrees of uselessness. As I've mentioned elsewhere, had Type-S not come along I would have ditched the format because no one can accurately recreate the vintage Mego body for some odd reason.

I totally agree that at the current price range we shouldn't have these issues, but FTC is pretty good about accepting returns. Just email or call them and mail back the damaged body and you get a new one within a few days. That being said though, your replacement body might not be much of an improvement. I went through this with my '66 Batgirl. 1st one: busted elbows. 2nd one: frozen knee that broke with the slightest pressure. 3rd one: she's standing on my shelf--I ain't touching her...

two cheap O-rings from Lowe's fix them right up, and the newer ones I don't find to be all that bad. The female body is just garbage, tho. It was for Mego, too.

The new ones (made in China) work really well for me personally. Yes, there are a few instances where I get some that are a tad tight which can pull the legs in somewhat. But a couple of pieces of cotton inserted into the pelvic region between each leg redistributes the tension so that each leg can move as I wish. This allows them to stand nicely and essentially get them back to full posability. To correct this in total is less than half a cotton ball. Yes, in principle I shouldn't have to do anything, but EVERY SINGLE BODY made out there has presented me with an issue at one time or another so no one gets away free on production issues. I figure if I'm going to have to do the work, I'll go with the best priced one.

Is there a tutorial around here about how to replace the o-rings, or should I youtube it?

I've heard the type-s bodies are a little bigger than the standard Mego-sized body. Do you have trouble fitting Mego costumes onto the type-s bodies?

I think it's worth noting there appears to be something of a unspoken push back from FTC on some of these other bodies being produced. If you noticed, the bodies on many FTC figures are slightly smaller which means those outfits are more custom scaled to those figures. That's also why there seems to be more of a bobble head look to some FTC figures that doesn't seem as bad when placed on other bodies (like the Type S). The latest wrinkle is FTC making the head plugs substantially smaller. Anyone who has a Monkees figure can remove the head and see the new plug in play now. It's too small to plug into a Type S body, unless you build it up. I definitely see some intentional efforts being made to specialize how particular pieces get made. So, yes some outfits you buy from FTC, like body suits, might be scaled down slightly to where they have a tighter fit on other bodies. I'm not sure if original Mego outfits have that issue or not. But, hey that's the free enterprise at work. Everyone is trying to protect their corner of the marketplace.
