Finishing Stories That Were Never Finished

I'm sitting here at work listening to the soundtrack to The Black Hole and it occurred to me that I would love to read a comic continuing the adventures of the crew in the probe ship on the other side of the Black Hole. As I thought about it it occurred to me that there are a number of properties from our youth I'd like to continue exploring.

Yeah I know you'd likely never get the rights from Disney and there are a couple of Whitman comics from back in the day, but I think the crew of the Palomino deserves a better send off. And Moonbase Alpha, and Automan...

Given how many smaller companies are running around with Disney licenses that Marvel obviously doesn't want to deal with, I think this is a terrific idea.

They could start by not only reprinting the four Gold Key issues (including the two that depict their adventures after the movie), but the Kirby stuff as well.

When Jack Kirby worked on a comic book adaptation of Disney’s Black Hole, he probably never dreamed Disney would one day buy his old employer, Marvel Comics. But such strange reality warps ar…

For me, just last week I was chatting with the gentleman who wrote the DC Comics Prisoner sequel, and had told him that as a kid I wanted to see that storyline continue with the new character they introduced (or at least the new concept/status quo).

It is pretty cool that we are getting more and more continuing adventures of old favourite shows in comic book form. Batman '66/Green Hornet, Wonder Woman 77, Man from UNCLE., Avengers/Steed and Mrs Peel, Doctor Who featuring The 4th Doctor etc.

for me, there is ALL WINNER SQUAD the mini Marvel put out years ago, when the FIRST CAptain America movie came out! Never finished, an 8 issue mini and only 5 issues. Tom Breeevort told me it is done, but sales were too low. So it got cancelled. ***????

Honor the commitment made by the people who worked on it and get it out, Disney/Marvel have ENOUGH money to cover any losses!!!

The Abominable Doctor Phibes for sure. I would love an updated movie but I'll take a comic. "In The Mouth of Madness" could be great. I love the Black Hole suggestion.

For me it's gotta be the Miracleman stories that were never published at Eclipse. I thought at one point McFarlane had them...but now that Marvel has the character I don't know if it will ever get done.

On the way, if Gaiman ever gets them written.

It's been confirmed that this is happening. With Mark Buckingham essentially ending his long running series Fables in order to return to Miracleman. I recently picked up the remastered Golden Age, and didn't ever realize that Buckingham had gone back and redrawn so much of it.

While we're waiting for the previously solicited and recently cancelled/pushed back Silver Age to begin, I would have thought that they would be reprinting Miracleman Apocrypha, or even the unreleased Miracleman Triumphant (with Mike Deodato art IIRC?).

It was cool seeing the other "lost" Miracleman story by Grant Morrison finally. A really young Grant Morrison wrote this script for Warrior Magazine, but Alan Moore nixed it. Some say this is the beginning of the weird relationship between the two where Moore just wants Morrison to stop trying to copy him (i.e. being a magician, taking drugs, writing essentially his own version of Watchmen in Muliversity)

it's pretty astonishing how many films have gotten comic book sequels.

Just be careful with the remastered stuff. I think I read somewhere or saw somewhere that Marvel/Disney messed around with some panels when they started the initial reprints of the Eclipse stuff. Made it more PG rated.

oddly enough, not Winter's birth scene, as far as I can tell. Nor any of the extreme violence. Which is where you would expect them to censor if they were in fact going draw the line somewhere.

But yeah, here and there you have some pretty casually innocuous nudity censored, essentially part of a nip and a couple of bare bums which they draw panties onto. Again. This is soooo bizarre to me. The boundary pushing violence and the childbirth scene alone are graphic enough to send this well into an adults only series. Yet... they censor a bum and a nipple?! Having grown up on a steady diet of nudity on Canadian TV, I don't understand you Americans at all dude.

jump to Miracleman #9 and we get the full monty baby! We See EVERYTHING. So why censor the other stuff?! I mean it's not graphic sex at all, it's just additional intimacy between a wife and husband in the scene immediately following the conception of the child they graphically show coming out of a woman's lower region in a later issue.
