    DC you

Or as I like to call it: DC (screw) YOU (aging fanboy). The parenthetical bits are implied.

Like the bit about embracing fans of all ages...what a crock as anything I was a fan of they've p!$$ed on and thrown away.

And again, it's amazing that DC licensing totally embraces the classic versions of the characters, DC TV makes us squeal with 3 seconds of a helmet prop, and yet the comics themselves are only interested in trying to capture the attention of everyone in the world who could care less.
It's like that weird love triangle thing in the movies where DC will do anything for the cool girl that ignores them, and the nerdy one that really cares is treated like dirt, yet still hopes they'll finally see the light.

Ugh! At least I know I won't be wasting money by buying any of this stuff. I don't think I've actually bought a comic book in probably ten years or more. I'm happy with my smelly, newsprint classics.
sigpic Oh then, what's this? Big flashy lighty thing, that's what brought me here! Big flashy lighty things have got me written all over them. Not actually. But give me time. And a crayon.

I love how they keep calling it a "Campaign". What the hell does that mean??!!?? Does it mean when it is a HUGE FAIL they can go back to the old DC Universe?? DC really has no clue what they are doing. I have no idea who half of those "top writers and artists" are. And the ones I do recognize I don't care for. Really, John Romita Jr.?? He is just awful now. Everything he does looks exactly the same. I hope to God that this stupidity doesn't invade what they are doing or have plans of doing in TV. WB needs to stick to Movies and TV and leave the print medium to people that know what they are doing.

My son and I were griping about the New 52 at supper last night, and Cindy asked "When are they going to end that? Is that still going on?"

            The world may never know...

                  Wow ... tough room

DC is learning from the mistakes of New 52 and taking what worked. Myself, personally, I was hoping for a return to some of the versions of my characters I have loved for many decades. But the success of the TV show and appealing to younger readers means I will never see a chili cooking liberal, left wing Ollie Queen with Van Dyke beard ever again.

Instead, Batgirl's recent make over has appealed to younger readers (not kids, Millenials) and they are flocking to the title. Tonnes of sales and tonnes of good press, relatively. So now that is being applied line wide. Gotham by Midnight is a great example. Moody art, fun story ... an enjoyable comic IMHO. Sure there are a ****eload of duds. But there always has been. Karate Kid in the 70's is unreadable now. The last few attempts at The Teen Titans have been junk. My kids love Batgirl and Gotham Academy. First DC titles I can get them to read ... ever.

See, if us 60-40 year old readers bought enough comics there would be no changes, no New 52, no DC You. But we are not. So the company has to change or die. They tried some new stuff in New 52 and now they are gonna try some more.

I know I'll be sticking around for some titles. Batman from New 52 has been a great read and far superior to any of Marvel's recent Inhummans titles. The previously mentioned Gotham By Midnight is so much better than the last 20 years of Spectre reboots. Not sure about the new Dr Fate but it can't be worse than the 90's sword wielding version. Can it? Cyborg looks good. Mecha-appleseed Batman is weird but I'll try it. Crew cut Superman vs 90's mullet Superman? Can't be THAT bad can it?

But if all else fails and DC blows, and Marvel's not-reboot sucks I can always read the new Captain Canuck series starting next week !!!!

I applaud them trying different types of titles for different demographics. That is SORELY needed. BUT, once again, they seem to be throwing up the middle finger to the fan base that has propped up their comics for decades.

Seriously, all DC has to do is an all-ages accessible book with the classic versions of the characters. Put some of the old guard on it. Gerry Conway. Len Wein. Jerry Ordway, etc. Kids could read it, and it'd shut us old farts up.

Okay ... changed my mind ... DC can kiss my behind.

DC Comics to run ads on the same pages as the comics

I cannot get over how bad John Romita Jr.'s art is. There is one apple that fell very far from the tree.

This is what I've been saying for a while. Put someone in charge that actually WORKED in the industry as a writer or an artist. The person mentioned in the article that is the new COO, or whatever, I've never heard of. Sounds like a bean counter. The attention span of the new readers, let's face it, isn't there. This is where the industry has changed for the worst. All the decisions these days are geared towards the short term and not toward the long term. This basically leaves a lot of older readers, not all...but a lot, in the dark/dust. What happens when half of the titles a company puts out have great sales for the first 2 or 3 issues and then completely tanks because the "new readers" that you were counting on have lost interest and moved on or over to the next thing? Doesn't bode well in my opinion...and in my opinion that is exactly what's going to happen. They can't say we didn't warn them.

^I really loved JR Jr. back in the early 80s. LOVED his early Spidey stuff. When his style evolved I do feel it did work for the grittier stuff, but I wasn't a fan of it either way. It doesn't work at ALL on Superman, to me anyway.

Much prefer Aaron Kuder's work in Action Comics to Romita Jr. Romita Jr. Is still good at storytelling, but his art is no longer attractive to me. I think Layton's inks had a lot to do with how slick Iron Man looked back in the day.
