Teen Titans TV Show... will it work?

so... the DC Comics TV show landscape is getting rather crowded quickly. Will they be able to keep up the current quality with the upcoming Teen Titans TV show? I think the weakness of the Birds of Prey TV series was the constant references to Batman, rather than letting the characters stand on their own. Dick Grayson's baggage on this show might threaten to do the same. Keep in mind how well Robin works in Teen Titans and Teen Titans Go for the most part because they let him stand on his own in the animated adventures, other than throwaway Batman gags.

any word on the lineup? I'm assuming Speedy, Arsenal and Kid Flash would be off the table.

if you click on the link...
Dick Grayson, former sidekick to Batman and founder of the team. Rachel Roth a.k.a. the mystical Raven, an alien princess named Starfire, and the duo of Hank Hall and Dawn Granger (Hawk and Dove, respectively). Add in Barbara Gordon (daughter to Jim Gordon) a.k.a. Oracle, and the show’s ties to the Batman mythology seem to be more than incidental.

With the possible cross-overs with Arrow (Arsenal and Speedy) , Flash (Kid Flash) and Supergirl since CBS, CW and TNT are all "sister" networks that opens the door.
          from TNT Titans

No word about casting except that Vampire Dairies star Steven McQueen will actively pursue the Nightwing role.

I will just be curious to see how they TVize both Raven and especially Starfire. I really don't know how you could go too "realistic" on either character and not actually lose some of what makes them the characters that people who've read the comics love...

There's a superhero glut in the marketplace. Studios need to dial back. Even Flash for all of it's top notch writing and well crafted stories has begun to lose ratings. It's my personal belief that we're approaching a saturation point with this genre. The formula is becoming all too familiar and the public is going to start turning away if the studios don't put some space between these projects.

Avengers AoU should be the retrospective peak, as in terms of box office and interest, it topped out quickly.

But it's the circles we travel in. There are more people who have never paid attention than actively follow, so we're aware of it all because the promotional constantly targets us. That's the bane of drilling down into an audience; it never lets up. Then add-in a large umbrella project like AoU, and it feels like we're drowning in genre content because we can't escape its advertising during non-genre related entertainment, like sports.

We'll know with, what's next, Ant-Man? That should clarify the trend movement.

^^^ Well said. One has to wonder if that doesn't translate into decreased merchandise sales as well. Between all of these movies and shows, plus the glut of product companies like FTC is putting out, I'm feeling a certain degree of fatigue on the subject. Heck, I've just recently entrenched myself into the Dark Shadows series and picked up the Majestic Studio's 1/6 scale figure that was made in 2004. Outside of a few Neca purchases, I've been a virtual no-show to the hero scene this year. I saw Age of Ultron opening weekend and really liked it. My initial thought was I would be back to watch it again, but that feeling is waning too. And when I read about this Teen Titans project and Supergirl trailer, my eyes roll back in my head. I just feel beat over the head with the subject.

It's just like they did with the comics themselves back in the day. You like Batman, Superman, Spiderman, X-Men....well here are 15 new titles of those characters. I completely agree that it will get saturated and series will maybe last a half season or a full season. Overload...not a good thing.

Titans had a real chance at being different but it seems like they're opting for expanding DCW. Supergirl is stand alone, unless I missed it. I have a feeling that show, or just her, will end up on CW after one season.

You know where WB, once again, missed the big opportunity? With Legion. WB should have put TV focus on LSH and adapt, modify, alter as they want. You could have had a Young Justice/ Titanscentric team at the heart of LSH and gone any direction with the stories. Like Drag adult Grayson from the past into the future and give him the Batman Beyond design. It would have been the perfect way to sidestep the "where the hell is the JLA" question as they're the next evolution.

LSH is the one thing Marvel has never been able to mimic.

TNT passed. So...canceled, unless CW steps in.

I think there was a tug o' war between Titans and Legends, where TNT didn't want another super-team show being made in-house, but the Arrow gang have no stake in Titans.

I can see that all changing now...so maybe here comes Tim Drake, Birds of Prey and perhaps Supergirl.

hey, Arrow has Roy coming back, and there is Speedy. WB could totally bring in the Titans. they could even introduce them on Arrow, Flash and Legends and see how popular they are before spinning them into their own series

It was already stated that if TNT had picked up the show that Arsenal and Kid Flash where to show up as the classic crossover event.

TNT has a problem with shows they do not have complete control over so it was a long shot anyways. WB needs to try and have a show on SyFy channel like Titans or Justice League Dark.

....didn't take Reilly long to indirectly blames Legends...

How much of the decision not to move forward with the DC Comics project Titans, also from Warner Bros., was based on the fact that you don’t own it?

It wasn't. Akiva [Goldsman] is a talented guy, [but] the script just wasn't there. There is an unbelievable glut of superhero things in the market right now and if you have a really good one, clearly people are up for it. But I just don't think that there's a need for one that, for me, at least on paper didn't seem to be screaming to get made.

In other words, if it's not part of the CWverse, DC projects won't work. CW is now at a place where they don't need TNT to hype their shows. I would not be shocked to see Legends rebranded to Titans with the Legion setup as a spinoff.

Also have to wonder if Teen Titans GO has become an issue. That's huge for CN.
