So the ATOM is Iron Man in the Arrow?

Forgive my ignorance as I have never read any of the DC Atom comics, just seen some covers where he is depicted as very small, so always assumed he was more like the Ant-Man type in super powers. In the Arrow, it just looks to me like they have blatantly made him more like Iron Man but even then, he couldn't defeat the Arrow because of his lamely exposed power pack.

That's his prototype suit, I'm guessing we will se an upgrade along the way. It was rumored that the character was originally supposed to be Ted Kord, the Blue Beetle, but was changed due to him already being in development elsewhere. Kord would make a lot more sense taking over Queen Industries. Ray Palmer was a professor at Ivy University and not an industrialist in the comics.

In the comics, the Atom shrinks, usually to 6 inches tall, but can control his weight, so he can throw a punch like a normal man, etc. He can also shrink to microscopic size as well.

My son was watching this off of the DVR yesterday and I was in and out. He said the same thing: "They made the Atom just like Iron Man!"

I'm hoping this evolves into what it should be.

I caught a line about him having "X-Ray vision".

They mentioned White Dwarf Star Matter briefly when Ray initially showed up , which in the comics is what he adapts into the suit to make himself shrink. But this outfit is closer to the Rocket Red suit . I was thinking he might even emerge as some Arrowverse version of Captain Atom, especially when CA's foil General Eiling showed up on Flash to hassle Firestorm.

wonder if the nanotech that he was injected with to save his life will come in to play later. They were supposed to shrink the blood clot.
