The more I hear about this convergence, the more scared I get, despite art like this. The whole "where worlds go to die" tells me DC is just going to dust these characters off to mutilate them.
Man, it's so good to see familiar faces again!! I, too, miss the innocence and fun that comics used to possess. My only question on the TT shot: where's my favorite, Raven?!?
sigpic Oh then, what's this? Big flashy lighty thing, that's what brought me here! Big flashy lighty things have got me written all over them. Not actually. But give me time. And a crayon.
I think I read this is the Crisis era team of Titans. I'm kinda looking forward to this one, the Marvels, the JSA, & the Freedom Fighters, but the big secrecy and such from DC is putting me off.
Infinite Crisis had me all stoked up for a return to Earth-2, then it turned into a "ha-ha, fanboy!" Bloodbath. I don't trust DC not to do that again. I'd really like to believe this is a test run to see if any of the pre -nu52 versions would still sell.
While much of the nu52 seems to be being accepted, there's probably been more stinkers released than hits. Releasing a bazillion Batman titles isn't creating a winning new line of comics. And shoving the new versions of Superman etc. down your throat isn't creating a success either. You can't create diversity by arbitrarily race/gender swapping characters either. To my mind, it just seems to make the issue more prominent, like saying Wally West is more interesting as a black person. Wouldn't it be better to create a new black character that becomes popular for his own merits and potential rather than the controversy created by switching race or sex on an established version? A perfect example to me is Cyborg, a new fresh hero when created who became one if the most beloved members of the Titans for what he was, not emphasizing who he was before.
I think it's very telling that 99.9% of DC merchandising features the classic versions of the characters drawn by Garcia-Lopez.
Anyway, I'm an old fart who should have given up these funny books long ago.
Yeah, Infinite Crisis is what is making me very weary of this. It did indeed seem like DC was going to address it's turn toward darker, more violent material and course correct, with the return of the multiverse concept. But they did indeed pull the rug right out from under long-time fans. The aftermath of that was the beginning of the end for me and monthly DC books.
As I said before, the DCnU should be a different Earth. If DC would have started this off as a multiverse Earth it would have solved so many problems when that rebooted. No more dealing with past characters just start new and with a clean slate. Instead they tried to pick and choose and that created a huge mess.
