Glow in the dark and Translucent: Best classic toy gimmicks ever!

I don't think glow in the dark toys and translucent toys get enough classic toy love. Me, I love that stuff. Some of my favs.

Aurora Monster models were great that goes without saying. But when they added glow parts it just took them to another level awesomeness.

Mego Mad Monsters: Classic Mego figures made even better because they glowed in the dark. Sure the AHI figures were licensed, but they didn't glow in the dark. Mad Monsters the clear winner.

Now, Remco fixed that with their Mini Monsters and 9 inch Monsters. Because again, Universal Monsters plus glow equals pure awesomeness. The first series mini Monsters aren't nearly as cool as second series glow ones. Not even close. The Creature's entire body glowed in the dark. Beyond cool.

Masters of the Universe Scareglow wouldn't be nearly as cool if he didn't glow in the dark. Again, great figure made even better because he glowed in the dark. Having that evil little dude glowing at kids at night, scarring the crap out of them, pure genius by Mattel.

Glow plastic just makes toys better. It's a fact. Heck, I would even collect Mego Happy Days figures if they glowed in the dark. Sure Potsie sucks. But a glow Potsie, not nearly as much.

Then there are translucent toys.

Tron, what can be said, they were translucent and they glowed in the dark. I mean come on! It just doesn't get much cooler. Tomy could have made them translucent and that really would have been enough for them to be kick butt figures. But they went that extra mile and gave them glow in the dark weapons. Because that's just how toy companies rolled back then. Pure awesomeness.

Crystar by Remco. Wicked cool looking figures. Didn't even have the comic as a kid but knew right away when I first saw them they reaked of translucenty goodness.

I was at Ben Franklin today, and they have this Santa Claus Christmas tree ornament in perfect Mego scale. So I had to build a figure out of it.

"He was chubby and plump, a right jolly old elf, and I laughed when I saw him, in spite of myself"

Image: http://i771.photobucket.com/albums/xx351/sprytel5/Santa/Santa3.jpg

I was inspired by the great looking Santa customs in the previous thread. But this one is really simple. Even I could do it! The ornament includes almost everything you need. Just carefully detach everything (the ornament is put together with hot glue) and reassemble on a Mego (or CTVT) fat body. The ornament's head is hollow, so if you are willing to sacrifice an old unloved head (goodbye, CTVT Fonzie...) you can turn it into Santa's neck plug. Throw in some black boots and you are set.

Card number 28 is dedicated to one of my personal favourite toy lines of my child hood, Mego's Pocket Superheroes. Released in the late 1970s, these 3 3/4" figures kept my love of Superheroes alive in a time when everything around was space orientated.

I'll be giving out these cards at tomorrow's Toronto Toy Show if you're in the area (click here for $2 off coupon to get in (http://www.antiquetoys.ca/coupons.html))

Hi Folks,
Selling my spare! Suit has a pretty uniform color, the flash takes some of it out. Original boots with NO splits! Neck has a couple bumps, most hidden in the back. Eyelashes has some rubs. Body nice, joints pretty tight.
Am I too honest? Too picky? You bet!

$70.00 and the price includes US shipping!

Thanks for looking, Theressa

Saw these two big sets freshly stocked at my local Walmart. One is Goliath in the standard Icon size accompanied by a smaller Secret Wars Iron Man. Cost at this store - $26.99. The other one was an Icon size Skrull with a Secret Wars Cap - Looks like the Bucky Cap version. Also $26.99. Here's a review with pics in case you were wondering what they looked like.

When: Today around 1 ish PM some time.

Where: Target or as I like to call it TarJay. The Christmas area to be more specific. Where all of the ornaments and Christmas trees and goodies are all at.

What: (Finally! - What you are really wanting to know) :smiley1:

Funko Star Wars Christmas bobble heads featuring Yoda, Darth Vader, C-3P0 and Jawa. I bought 3 out of the 4. The Jawa seemed to be missing. Probably a short pack no doubt. These were like $6.00 plus tax and they are pretty neat looking. (pictures coming soon)

Any body else seen these yet?

Also.....

In the same area I found a "large" Yoda with light up light saber. Ok looking...I passed on this one even know there was only one on the shelf.

Also...

Star Wars talking action figure displays. Featuring - Darth Vader, Storm Trooper and Chewbacca. Darth Vader and Storm Trooper looked pretty good. Chewbacca on the other hand looked like his scultp was ran through a car wash. ???? All three with different sayings when you press the button. I passed on these as well. I just wasn't really feeling "the force" today. What can I say?

The scene where they board a Russian plane to get to China...you could hear the air traffic controller say, "you are not authorized to take off!"

When the world is literally ending all around you...there's still someone so dedicated...that he's still following protocol...LMFAO...that was indeed truly imbecilic...but funny as hell too...lol...

Now these are not the full blown super hero custom figures I usually do, but they are still cool looking and give AJ something to hunt for! I have a few of these, so members can also contact me here for one if the are interested.
