    Dukes Mania

Dukes of Hazzard was the first time as a kid where there was a show that I watched and enjoyed but when that avalanche of merchandise arrived, I had no desire to own any of it.

Boy though in 1981, if you could think of it, you could buy it with the General Lee on it...

I had the 3 3/4 Mego figure set with the General Lee, plus Rosco, Boss Hogg and Daisy.
I also had a really cool mini pinball machine, but my favorite was the Ertl Hazzard County playset. It had a huge printed mat with a bunch of cardboard buildings that recreated the entire town, and it came with die cast General Lee, Boss Hogg's Cadillac, two Hazzard police cars, Daisy's Jeep, and Uncle Jesse's pickup.

Brian, was this a Sears catalog page? This explains why I had EVERY item on this page for Christmas 1981. Well, except the Big-Wheel thing. I was probably too big for that by then.

Once again you've unlocked a long-buried memory here. I think I already had the 3 3/4" Mego set, but I've been wondering for years what exactly I had that came with the General and Roscoe's car with those big holes in the back. That's the race track you see here. It's all coming back now!

I think there are Christmas pics of me with the hat and belt on from this play set. I don't remember it coming with that blow-molded General Lee though...

Dukes came along at a good time for me. I was heading into high school and this show was about a fast car and nice looking girls. Don't remember much about the Duke boys...

I loved the show as a kid, but even then was never a big fan of the toys. None one of the General Lee's were ever shaped right. I watched a couple episodes on CMT as an adult. I realized why my parents never watched the show with us.

I traded my Boss Hogg car years ago for a 12 inch Zod and Lex MIB.

I am still amazed the 3 3/4" Mego figures and vehicles are so expensive.

Found that pic. No hat in this one, but I wore that belt around like a real belt for at least a week, I think. This was taken at my grandparent's house, on Christmas Day of 1981, I'd guess.

It just occurred to me that the belt I had was quite different than what was shown in the catalog page. I wonder if the catalog version ever came out? I know my set came with that hat...beyond that, I don't remember the other accessories.
