has anyone ever successfully "de-frosted" a carded vintage figure?

People say 30 minutes of sunlight dissipated the "frosting " on carded figures.
    Anyone done it?
Done it with an encased AFA graded figure in thick acrylic?

Saw you posted this on rebelscum too. Sadly, the frosting is a breakdown in chemicals in the PVC, there is no way to prevent that breakdown, but you can slow it. Keep the figure in a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight.

Okay, I'm confused. What is this "frosting" exactly? I've never heard the term with action figures.

It's a build up of white 'dust' on a figure caused by light exposure or temperature fluctuation. Similar to the stickness found on some toys. In short, it is a chemical breakdown of the vinyl, and the fate of every toy.

^Ah, gotcha. Lots of my DCUC figure capes have that going on already, which is just sad.

The old thirty minutes in sunlight didn't work, although people swear by it on the Rebelscum site...now I know why I dropped carded Sw collecting 12 years ago, sigh...

Seems to be a common topic on rebelscum...they also call it "plasticides"

Every figure from the Apokolips JLU set suffers from it too. It saddens me, but it is what it is.

Personally, I see it more on modern figures than vintage, but I know it can occur in almost any line.

I just received my vintage old Indiana Jones on card yesterday from ebay...and it to has the dreaded white crystals on an arm and a leg....I'm amazed vintage toy dealers on ebay don't notice these things before they post for sale!
I'm getting my refund on both but now a lot of my moola is tied up for a period of time. Frustrating.

Is deterioration of carded classic toys a huge issue in 2014?
I guess I noticed this problem less when I collected them in the nineties....

Probably because the plastic breaks down over time. The older it gets, the more prone to breaking down it is.
