Kusan's Sonic Fazer is one of those toys that made no bones about it's inspiration. As the caped Han Solo look alike on the box would attest to, this is made with George Lucas in mind.
Kusan however made up for a lack of licensing by adding a lot of cool innovative features to the Sonic Fazer and advertising the living crap out of it. I seem to remember the commercial playing at least twice during "Battle of the Planets" which made me instantly want it, funny how that works...

Wow, they had their bases covered. Han Solo look, Luke robes, and Superman cape. The guy kind of looks like Richard Hatch from Galactica!

I've never seen this before, but it sure looks cool for a late 70s toy!

I wanted one badly back in the day. :drool_y: My best friend had one tho. I played with it everytime he brought the gun to school. He was a good friend. The Sonic Fazer was a cool toy indeed.

I remember playing with one of these, either a friend had it or it was in a store but I didn't own it.

That must have been a pain in the neck having to lug that box with you wherever went.

The box is just a retail display. I had one of these when I was young and LOVED it. I think it may still be in my mom's basement. I saw it reissued a few years ago in a silver vac-metal finish at KB stores. I bought one for my son and understood immediately my parents yelling "play with that thing outside!". Seemed an injustice at the time, but man was that thing loud and annoying.

I have to agree with Earth 2 Chris about it looking more like a Battlestar Galactica weapon and less like a Star Wars Han Solo blaster. However the outfit does appear to have more of a Luke Skywalker look than a Han Solo look. I remember when these came out and I thought the same thing back then as well. I actually had one of these for awhile. A very cool toy and one that I wish I still had today.

I had one of these when I was a kid. I remember playing with it a lot, especially when I was playing "Star Wars." I thought it was great!

I still have my Kusan Sonic Fazer and its in excellent condition and it also works. I got it when it came out at the store; normally I could have cared less about any other toy at the time except a Star Wars toy, but since I was told I couldnt get Star Wars toys all the time I figured this would be as close to getting a Star Wars toy that really wasnt one. The guy on the box reminded me of Apolo from Battlestar Galactica (which I also liked as a kid). I wonder what the value on this item loose would go for?

And let's not forget the Star Trek influenced name. Spelled differently, of course, to avoid any potential trademark issues.

Cool, I had the Sonic Fazer!
It had a decent selection of sounds, and the red LED in the viewfinder was neat. The voice amplification was pretty cool, too.
Ah, the memories.

While pressing the trigger, just speak into the mic at the back end of the weapon under the viewfinder (the mic is indentified as a small circle with a disc of foam over it), and it will emit your voice from the front end of the Fazer.

Wow, can you imagine what would happen today, in a climate where a kid draws a picture of a gun and gets kicked out of school? You and your friend would probably be handcuffed and sent to the slammer.
