I am a big peanuts fan and I know a lot of you collect comic art and cartoon cels.

Most everyone knows that Charles Schulz created all of the Peanuts characters, drew all of his strips, and wrote the primary scripts for the television specials.

What is not as well known is that Charles Schulz did not animate the television specials....this was mostly the creation of Bill Melendez who is still alive (even though he is now in his 90's). Anyway, there was a recent find of some of his production drawings for various programs.

I just purchased this one and as far as I know, it is the only one in existence. It was the best of what they had found that hadn't been sold already (in my opinion it was about the 3rd or 4th best production drawing found). It is hand drawn and signed by Bill Melendez. For any follower of Peanuts, this is from a classic scene and there is no doubt what television special this one is from. Just thought I would share my exciting find with everyone.

Thanks, I really am excited.

I have a person that I have purchased a few items from who works closely with Bill Melendez studios. He immediately notified me when these came up for sale and caught this one almost as soon as it went up but had to make a very fast decision because I knew it would be gone. The person who reserved it for me told me it was a great choice and one of the best of the bunch....I couldn't agree more.

There were some other nice ones like Snoopy dancing among the rabbits in the egg but there were a lot of notes scribbled on the page on how the rabbits would dance, colors, dimensions, etc. and I wanted just the simple drawing. It actually looks much better in person than the picture shows. You can actually see where Bill Melendez erased part of Snoopy's ear and cleaned it up a bit which just adds to the charm of the drawing.

He stopped a lot of signing because of his age....I'm not sure how old exactly but I know he's in his 90's.

The link are definitely production pictures and prints from his studio but a tad overpriced.

The person I work with is walking distance to his studio and because he does so much business gets a discount and passes a little of the savings on to me.

There are two limited edition prints that have been sold out for a while from Charlie Brown Christmas...one called "Great Skate" the other one called "Merry Christmas Charlie Brown". They are extremely expensive but I'm on a waiting list if either one comes up...so now it's a matter of waiting years for one to come available and hopefully having the money for it when and if they become available.

yeah you can find his work all around. It's much less expensive than Charles' work for sure. I think many people understand the difference in the two people but Bill doesn't get that credit often times.
great work either way.
