Wow! Hogan's Hero's is a good pick. With so many great shows out there it is a challenge for me to pick just one favorite so I will have to say the following just off the top:
Starsky and Hutch

Gotta go with the musical themes.
1) Hawaii Five-O
2) magnum, pi
3) Munsters
4) Dennis The Menace
5) Leave It To Beaver
6) Dick Van Dyke
7) Captain Kangaroo
8) M*A*S*H
9) Bonanza
10) The Wild, Wild West
These are great music beds. Honorable mention has to go to the theme at the end of every Incredible Hulk episode.
Now, for visual openings -
1) Batman - it's just cool
2) Get Smart - gotta love the image of walking through all those doors just to get to a payphone entrance.
3) Gilligan's Island
4) F-Troop
Both Gilligan's Island and F-Troop set up the show like you don't see much of anymore.
5) M*A*S*H

Lots of favorites:
X-Files
Battlestar Galactica (current series)
Angel (loved the theme music)
Six Feet Under
Star Trek (TOS)
Lost in Space
Land of the Lost
Cheers
Hill Street Blues
Charlie's Angels
Justice League Unlimited
Wonder Woman (1st Season)
CSI (all of them because the Who are great and any show that can get away with using "Baba O'Riley" (CSI:NY) as a theme song is fantastic!)

The Simpsons before they cut everything down to just the Couch Gag.

My favorite of all times has always been The Avengers with Patrick Mcnee and Diana Rigg (the second one is with Linda Thorson as Tara King, that one is not as good)...
YouTube - The Avengers (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qYKMnTADbxY)
I think it's the classiest opening of any show...Rigg is so sexy and cute...and Mcnee is so suave and debonair, and oh...so British, lol.

U.F.O. was actually born out of the ideas for the next season of Captain Scarlet and once Anderson got the idea of a moonbase in U.F.O. he developed the idea from U.F.O. next season to concentrating on the moonbase element giving rise to Space 1999.
I love:
The Prisoner
Dr Who
Blakes 7
The Tomorrow People
Sapphire & Steel

Hard to pick a favourite.....up until the mid eighties or so, just about every show had a great opening. Yet another feature modern television shows just dont have.

This one goes way back and although not really much of opening you always ended up singing along. Anyone remember ZOOM on PBS? I always wanted to be one of the Zoom kids, especially after the rollcall segment (yeah I know, my expectations weren't very high when I was kid :wink_y:). That Bernadette chick and the freaky thing she did with her arms - was always a topic of debate.

Classic shows: The Mary Tyler Moore Show, Odd Couple, The Munsters, Get Smart, Sanford and Son, Chico and The Man, Batman, In Search Of... what a great themes these shows had!!!! Some of these really rocked!
Not exactly classic: Ally McBeal, Scrubs, Sledge Hammer!, Riptide, GAH, Max Headroom, House, Charmed. There was a British show called Star Cops which had a Justin Hayward, ( of the Moody Blues), song. I liked it a lot tho it is regarded as saccharine as the power ballad from Enterprise. I can't seem to get The 6 Million Dollar Man and Buck Rogers in the 25th Century off my mind.
I really like what they did with the new episodes of Doctor Who. There's this additional, ominous, string section in the new theme which sends a chill down my spine like, yeah, it's DW but it's gonna be scary!
