A truly sad day for 70's-ophiles. I still love watching the old episodes of Match Game with him and Brett Somers. As a kid, I had no idea they all trashed.
Ah, well, raise one this weekend for one of TV's most famous B celebrities.

A true 70's icon in a way. As a kid I never really got his sense of humor that I now appreciate. Love watching the old Match Game reruns!
Easily the funniest star of Match Game. I see his name and I immediately start playing the "bum bump bah dah bah da da dump bump" hook music in my head.

Lidsville was a classic early surrealist fave for me. I also recall he had a guest role in an X-Files episode that was very very good.

Yes, I believe he reprised that character on an episode of Millenium as well.

Very Sad news. I loved him on Match Game, and inthe 70's I was probably one of the few kids that loved Uncle Croc Block show.
RIP Mr Riley

I always loved those B level celebrities on game shows in the 70's. I never really knew what else they did. It was like they were just famous for being famous. Charles Nelson Reily and Nipsey Russell were my favs.

Certainly a major pop icon for me, from Kroft to Match Game he was a hoot!
Now Bret Sommers can harass him again!

 OMG! This is so sad! I watched Lidsville when I was 5, and he was the reason I started watching Match Game, (Who-Doo was in it!). Then later at 9 I watched him in Uncle Croc's Block. One of my Saturday morning heroes is gone forever. :( You will be missed Charles, and you were loved by many.

I read this on AOL today. They have a great You Tube clip where Charles temporarily takes over hosting the Match Game. Classic.

He will be missed. Also loved him in Canonball Run 2 and the episode of Spongebob Squarepants he did with Ernest Borgnine and Tim Conway.

I was going to say that I noted his name on Spongebob Squarepants. RIP.
I really liked Charles.
Has anyone seen that SNL episode in which Will Ferrell plays James Lipton of The Actor's Studio and he's interviewing Alec Baldwin as Charles Nelson Reilly?? It's hilarious!
Rest in Peace, Mr. Reilly. :(
