I saw this during its first run at the theater way back in the late 70s.

Yes, it was an R-rated flick (I was in junior high), and I still managed to get into the theater, lol.

I was really taken back.

Why?

Very disturbing movie to watch.

It starred Camille Keaton, the granddaughter of Harry Keaton (Buster's brother).

Roger Ebert has stated in the past that he's all for burning the master prints of I Spit on Your Grave, lol.

Tough flick to watch.

:googly:

Yes I seen that movie too. It was probably pretty shocking back in the day. Hell...I was shocked watching it a few years back.

I never seen it,

But, I own it.....

My buddy gave me a S-load of DVD's when he moved (he didn't want anymore)

Now that you guys brought it up, I gotta pop that thing in the player

When this one came out wasn't it surrounded by rumours that some of the footage was actually real???
I do not know I'm just asking?I'll go google it but I remember hearing that years ago.Never mind I found it.

From wiki;(edited so as not to spoil it for others that haven't seen it.)
In the commentary for the Millennium Edition, Zarchi(director) said that he was inspired to do the film after helping a young woman in New York. He tells of how a friend of his and his daughter were driving by a park when they witnessed a young woman crawling out of the bushes bloodied and naked (he later found out the girl was taking a common shortcut to meet with her boyfriend when she was attacked).

Personally I thought it was a rather lame copy of "Last House on the Left", now that movie really disturbed me when I first saw it, first movie from Wes Craven (A Nightmare on Elm St) and Sean S. Cunningham (Friday the 13th). Two girls raped and tortured by group of exscaped thugs/drug addicts. Very hard to watch, and while I own the dvd, I find it hard to recommend. They are remaking it - ala - Hills Have Eyes.

I distinctly remember the box art grabbing my attention in the video store during the 80's.

A very disturbing movie indeed. However, its one that I had to buy on DVD as well as VHS.

I just tried to watch it ........

Like 45-ish mins in and they're still raping her

Not my cup of tea for a movie ....

To be honest, I turned it off.

In the early 1980's this movie was banned in England, VCR's and Video shops were just starting to take off over here and ISOYG was amongst the List of Video Nasties
Even The Evil Dead was Banned and considered to Be a Video Nasty so I never got to see it. Saw Evil Dead though.
Here's a list of Video Nasties.

Had this on video in the 80's as well as most of the list (thanks B), am slowly getting most of them on dvd ...but in all honesty a lot of them are dire.
Interesting fact ...when the BBFC saw the original cut of "Straw Dogs" they immediately ordered some cuts to the rape scene....unfortunately the re edited scene made it appear more like a rape scene involving buggery and ended up looking worse than the original cut.
....more factoids soon fact fans.

Dude, you just watched the worst part...the other half she turns the tables on them.

But yes, a very disturbing flick to watch, you feel like taking a shower afterwards.

Wow, that's awesome that you managed to see it in the theatre back then (especially considering how young you were). Kudos!

The film is rough going but really is a 70's exploitation classic.

I watched this on video back in my late teens or eraly 20's. I understand Ebert's opinion on destroying it. It's a pretty repulsive movie. I watched it right around the same time as Last House On the Left, also pretty repellent, but made with a little more craft.

I spit on your grave and LHOTL are both very tough and disturbing movies to watch and while they are not great cinema, they are good grindhouse flicks. I Spit On Your Grave is the ultimate revenge flick! ANother tough one to watch is LIPSTICK..
