Would this Fist-Fighter Superman repair bother you?

When I got this Fist-Fighting Superman, someone had drawn a belt buckle and some belt loops on his original yellow half belt. Despite my best efforts, I could not remove the ink from the belt. So far, all my previous restoration efforts have been successful, but I was going to have to give up on this one..

till I realized you could cut down an original Superman (From a trashed Superman - Calm Down) belt to the exact same size, then run a single thread through the original holes left from the previous sewing. I even pulled some gathers in the belt to make it look original.

As a self-professed Purist, this kinda bothers me, but maybe not as bad as a hand drawn belt buckle.

    What do you think?

Don't you just love how FF Superman can do the Iconic Superman Pose?

Looks great, Heath. I wouldn't have known it was a replaced belt if you hadn't admitted your evil deception.

You used original Mego parts to restore the suit...doesn't bother me...I put this on the same level as T's SA gloves made from a tunic...

Awesome original material repair. Its 100% Mego in my book, so kudoos on a great solution. Its worth more than with the crappy belt IMO.

Thanks Paul, that makes me feel better.

Here's a pic of the crappy belt I gave up on. Alcohol seemed to be the best solvent, but wouldn't completely remove anything.

Hey Heath, looks great and it`s all original so well done. I saw that auction and could`ve sworn merlyn won it - maybe ebay didn`t update the final listings.

                  Glad you finally won one.

                  PS. I`ve PM`d you.

Merlyn won it for me while I was away on business.

If you had doubled back so that the thread didn't look like it skipped every hole, the repair would have been undetectable from the outside of the suit. Did you try any of the chemicals out there for removing ink stains specifically? I found something called "Graffitti Remover" that is some pretty good stuff.

Either way, it looks infinitely better though.

If I made the repair myself and it was for my collection, no it wouldn't bother me at all. Had a bought it as mint and found out later it had been repaired, yeah, it would bother me. Not because it looks repaired, and not because it's not 100% mego, which it is, but just because I had paid for it to be "right off the card" mint.

I think you did a stellar job and it's perfectly fine.

Side note, have you tried removezit on the other belt? I retored my original Andorian tunic with it. Someone had drawn a belt on it with a marker. Took a couple treatments but it came totally off and looks dead mint now.
