I saw it a long, long time ago on cable. It wasn't very good or actually really scary. It's a bad overated movie. Not fun bad either. Just stupid bad.
From what I remember the main character gets a new type of skin graft with Bat DNA or something which for some bizarre reason causes her to grow an anus looking thing in her armpit which shoots out phallic looking thing with a stinger which she uses to feed on the blood of her victims and turn them into zombies. I'm serious.
Not a good movie.
That sounds pretty lousy :smiley1:
Even though it stars Marilyn Chambers, it's not a porno, right ?

No, it's straight forward horror movie. Probably saw it on HBO or Showtime. I used to have a pretty high tolerance level for B and D level horror movies in the 80s.

I'm sorry to say, I saw this movie when I was 11. It was on the double bill w/ "A Hero Ain't Nothin' But A Sandwich", which we were reading in school. This theatre was on 42nd St (Time Square), and we went late at night, probably b/c the power had gone out in our building again, and this was a great way to kill time. Anyway, I can't say I saw this movie in its entirety, b/c it was pretty grisly. I can't really remember the plot, except this gross thing kept moving from person to person and there was LOTS of blood! I remember my ears being sore, b/c I spent most of the time covering them w/ my coat when a gross part came on. I also remember I saw my first gay (woman) kiss. (won't say anymore on that) I won't say it freaked me out b/c I really didn't see enough of it to have affected me.

I have this film in my collection. It is kinda cheesy but it still has its moments. I clearly remember the tv spots for this film and thinking how scarey it looked. It seemed like in those days, they were able to make the trailer more scarey then what the film actually was.

I think it had a U.S. release on DVD. I saw it a couple years back, during law school, at a film festival. Not that scary, but if I recall correctly (and I'd had a few beers) the "horror" of it was mostly based around Chambers' fame as a porn actress and David Croenenberg's preoccupation with bodily parts, fluids, all that...essentially, you have a pretty woman who develops what - I'll word things gentle enough here and try to remain somewhat family friendly - essentially looks like an attack "male bit" under her arm, and at least a few times kills people during intimate moments. This, I'm told, was essentially a horror response to the porn film "Deep Throat" wherein certain lady bits are, per the plot, located in the main character's esophagus. In fact, I think they wanted the actress from that movie to star, but picked Chambers instead. This sort of amounts to a recurring theme in Croenenberg's work - see Rosanna Arquette's leg scar in "Crash" for example...it's often a take-off of gender, and genitalia, and sexuality and violence. Not a film where I was like "I MUST OWN THIS ONE ON DVD," which is never a good sign. So it was just OK.

Seen it many more times than I cared to.Its Canadian,it's cronenberg,it's got marilyn Chambers, they are Vampire/zombies they never have made up their mind yet what they really are.I beleive it was filmed in Toronto? Not a bad watch if you've never seen it yet but not something I would loose sleep over if I had never seen it.If you are a huge Cronenberg fan or Canadian then you must watch it!!!
I say Canadian because at least you have justification in watching it because you want to know where your tax dollars went in the 70's/80's!!!
It was given government grants to be filmed;I saw that in a documentary on horror icons that featured Cronenberg.
O-ya if your drunk(really drunk) its funny. But I have for sure seen alot worse thats for sure.

I think one of the funniest segments was when Marilyn's character needed blood and she laid down with a cow, put her "arm" around the cow and started drinking it's blood through her armpit. Then she started throwing up.....seems she needed "human" blood...imagine that!! :feiertag-smiley-003

I remember watching Rabid on Showtime back in the early to mid 1980s. The first half of movie was okay but they seemed to throw out whatever script they had out the window for the second part.

My dad is a big Cronenberg fan, so he made me watch it when I was a teenager. :smiley1: I think that by that point I had already seen Chambers in some of her more memorable roles, like in INSATIABLE for example. I'm hit or miss with Cronenberg films (I do love VIDEODROME and THE FLY), but I've been meaning to revisit RABID one day.
Hmmmm....
It's a weird, WEIRD film..... Definitely a B-movie, but it has some nifty indeas and scenes. Not one you HAVE to see, but if you like cheesy B-Movies it's okay.
Cronenberg did "Shivers" too, didn't he? THAT'S a messed up movie too....

I've seen it, thought it had some moments. Have it recorded on VHS somewhere. Most of all what stands out in my mind is the scene where a doctor goes nuts during an operation and scissor's off a finger of a nurse.
