Return of the Vintage Toy Store Pictures

This has to be one of my favourite obsessions, finding pictures of toy stores and aisles past. So I'm really pleased to be coming out with Vintage Toy Stores Part Five with a collection of images that feature classic toys of the seventies including Mego Superheroes, Adventure Team G.I. Joes, Aurora Monster Models, View Masters, Tonka Trucks and of course, Star Wars action figures.
If you're digging this then please check out Part One, Part Two and Part 3 and Part 4 in this series. I hope to bring Part 6 in the next few months, wish me luck!

Oh, sweet mother of Abraham Lincoln! Star Wars 12-backs in the store- where you could actually pick them up and buy them, and they weren't encased in acrylic! And in a time when (don't say this too loud) kids OPENED them and played with them! Oh, the humanity!

I'm getting dizzy... I think its my consciousness trying to travel back in time...

Several of those shots look like they could have come from our local Ben Franklin's awesome toy dept. in the 70s.

We had a Children's Palace in nearby Lexington, but it didn't have the cool parapets and towers.

      Awesome finds Brain!

Man, that was fun to look at! What a treasure trove of pics. I had no idea they did SW 3-packs. Good thing I don't collect SW, those are so cool. I love the K&K Mall store---that looks like my local mall toy store. Pretty picture.

I wasn't really all that familiar with the 3 packs either so I asked a mod at rebelscum about them. To put it in Mego terms, they're Aquaman VS GWS MIB rare and uber pricey.

I just double checked, there are only four complete sets of those out there now and can fetch 75K. So I guess it's unreal to see them languishing on a shelf like that.

Jeez, the Greedo one seems like a bargain at $1,999.99 compared to the others. I don't remember these as a kid, odd because I was a SW junkie.

yeah i have seen a few in person at toy shows but they are extremely hard to locate. Just another great SW odd item that makes the toys great.

those diecast displays go pretty regular on ebay. I have seen them along with the figure ones over the years. ToysRGus.com has a great listing for them

I have all the diecast with about half carded/boxed and I have always wanted the display.

WOW... Now that really took me back. What would any of us give to go back through time and spend an hour there...with our cash from TODAY! They would have to close the freakin' store!!! I'm sure I wasn't the only one who tried to put a modern day dollar value on each shelf as they observed the old Star Wars figures, GI Joes, adventure sets, and Megos. If someone would have told them they could buy a house with one isle of those action figures, they would have looked at you like your a nut. What does surprise me is I've seen very few shots of Heroes World in New Jersey. Since they had the comic it amazes me no one took the time to shoot the interior. They've GOT to exist somewhere.

One can hope, one of these days maybe we can find a former employee or shop owner. That would be incredible, as a kid I always wondered what the inside of one of those looked like.....

As soon as I saw the pic at the start of this thread, my eyes darted to those SW three packs immediately! As a still-recovering SW toy junkie myself, I noticed them right away. I remember having opportunities to get them back in the early '90s and saying to myself, "$500 for that?? No way!" *sigh* Instead I bought heaps of Toy Biz figures, heh I really love these vintage toy store pics, it's probably my favorite feature on Plaid Stallions. Here's to hoping those aforementioned Heroes World pics finally surface someday soon.
