    79 Micronauts love

I love old Christmas catalogs, I love Micronauts but the 1979 Sears Canada catalog will always be a favourite of mine as it holds a special place in my heart.

My Micronaut love really piqued in 1979, spurred on by those glow in the dark aliens with gorgeous Ken Kelly package art. However, the real reason I love this catalog is that I used it's graphics for a detailed letter to Santa, probably my last and the only one still in my possession:

I didn't get everything on that wishlist (although I have most of it now save for the cat calendar and the remote controlled sand crawler.) I clipped a lot of images out of that wishbook but some were lost to time. Whenever I look at this thing, it brings me back to that great time.

So wait...how did you get it back from Santa? What are you saying?

Seriously, that is awesome. I'd love to have a piece of my childhood back like that. Thanks for sharing!

I want to see this cat calendar which stands among such awesomeness. This must be some calendar.

I had a nice collection of micronauts as a young teen. Unfortunately went away before I realized it was ok to keep my kid stuff. Maybe I'll rebuild one of these days

That Micronaut spread looks very familiar. I wonder if the US Sears catalog used the same pictures?

I am actually more surprised about the rather pricy items themselves. Really was oblivious to just how much some of the Micronaut toys cost back in 79 no less.

How well did Micronauts sell back in the day compared to Star Wars? Did the release of The Empire Strikes Back and the (then) new comic boost their sales?

Judging by the prices, I could see why vehicles may have not been as popular. Most kids probably would have saved or wanted Star Wars vehicles instead.

Ah yes......Micronauts, these were my last toys that I remember asking for, great toy. Then it was on to video games, BMX, skateboarding, cute girls and well the rest is history : )

Kind of cool you could order the entire set of those.

That struck me too, the Rocket Tubes were $60, that was a lot for a toy in 1979! (especially for one that didn't work)

That letter is awesome. But wait I'm confused, first you wanted the RC Sandcrawler, but changed it to Land of the Jawas? I'd love to see that back of that letter with the drawings.
