    1981 Ben Cooper Costume Catalog

Halloween around here wouldn't be the same without the store bought goodness that is Ben Cooper. If you were a child of the 70s or 80s, then you certainly knew their product.

Cooper held some of the great licenses in 1981 including the Disney characters, both the DC and Marvel comics Superheroes, Clash of the Titans and of course, Star Wars. The only thing they were missing were the Universal Monsters (who had jumped ship to rival Collegeville).

In addition the store bought costumes, Cooper had a mountain of other fun Halloween related items like rubber masks, fake blood, rubber bats and bugs and tons of Jigglers to suck your wallet dry like a vacuum baby!

The 1981 Ben Cooper Costume catalog featuring vintage halloween costumes of Tsuperheroes, cartoon characters and a whole lot more.

I remember all of those SW masks.
You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

At first glance, I thought the Fred Flintstone drawing was grabbing his crotch.
If a Mego figure of God did not exist, it would be necessary for EMCE to invent him.

OK, I have a confession- Although I live nostalgically love them now and I wore one every year when I was kid, BUT... I also found them disappointing when I was a kid.

I remember being so jealous of kids whose mother hand-created cool costumes. I found it frustrating that Ben Cooper couldn't simply reproduce the character's uniform or outfit on the jumpsuit. Did we really need a picture of the person on our chest? I think that's one of the reasons I stuck with Batman so many years (besides my love of Batman). Yeah, he had his name on the mask, but the costume was kind of close. I really wanted sleeves and a big cape. Definitely a dangerously large cape.

Yeah I never like the ones that had a picture of the character on the costume. I'm trying to remember... I had Spider-Man, Batman, Chewbacca, C-3PO and maybe Superman, I'm not sure.

Nah, with his misshapen little right arm, you could probably take him.

I said it in the Titans thread but I'll say it again, I really find those drawings oddly disturbing. *shudder*

I had a homemade costume and store bought mask and hat for 4 years (I was a witch), but loved it in 6th grade when I got my first and only Ben Cooper costume, the Bionic Woman. I loved that thing. I even slept in it once, and got a rash b/c of the plastic. But these days, I have my 18 inch dolls, and for Halloween, I make them Ben Cooper style costumes, matching boxes, and even a Woolworth setup. I miss those days.

May be my favorite custom of all time-

TRICK OR TREAT! Something I've wanted to do since last October....an amalgamation of a Mego Batman with the Classic (?) Ben Cooper Batman costume. Yes, Ben Cooper gets a lot of flack for getting the costume WRONG so I wanted to see how a Mego would look in it. :smiley1: The box also is a merging of the ideas of the

Oh and I would've guessed that the Doctor Strange costume was actually supposed to be the angry weight-lifting dad from "The Wanderers". Yikes.
