Yeah Amityville Horror was scarier for me also. But both were great movies. I didnt care much for the sequels.

I'm still hoping to oneday see a special edition Poltergeist DVD though.

Both use to scare the crap out of me when I was a kid,but I gotta go with Amityville Horror just cause I grew up hearing it was a true story

I'd go with Poltergeist easily. Amityville doesn't hold up for me as an adult.

Hmmmm....

I saw both in theaters when I was a kid, and wasn't scared by either. I'd go with Poltergeist though; it had some weird monsters and a team of researchers trying to stop them. Amityville had a psycho guy with an axe, and a bunch of flies. *yawn*

Actually I think the psycho guy with an axe would be much scarier since it's something that could actually happen.

Amtyville Horror wins in my eyes. Plus, when I read the book when I was younger, my room was dark when I was reading the part where a pig's red eyes flashed from the top window of the house, and right at that same moment the red tailights of a car reflected through my mirror. Scared the living heck out of me. I'll never forget that.

Guilty Pleasure ALERT ......

I actually like Amityville 3-D as much as the original

Meg Ryan was really young in that.

Poltergeist
It had that whole scene with the Clown from Hell.

I remember Mum coming home from the movies and telling me about Amityville when I was young...of course my imagination was worse than the real thing, but I'd still have to go with that one.

Poltergiest for me ...the creepiest thing about Ammnitiville was the theme.
