    Toy Art

No, I'm not talking about packaging artwork or the like... Just drawings of classic toys.

Just wanted to share some recent pieces I've done for fun.
(Folks who've friended me on FB has already been annoyed by these postings, so, uh, sorry and junk.)

NICE! I really like your style. That certainly has the flavor of the old 'Heroes World' illustrations from the Joe Kubert School of Art. Nice work!

I was trying to go for bold and simple (in order to make screens easier for silk screening.) The coloring was just to sample, and I got carried away. I'm in the process of making more. Looking for subjects is the hardest part. I'm sticking with toys from my childhood, but I'm open to suggestions.

          Those are awesome!
You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

Don't really mean to bump this post at all. I just wanted to share some new images I've worked on and I didn't want to start another thread.

These are more along the lines of reinterpretations of childhood favorites than straight up toy illustrations:

These are more pop-culture related, but I enjoyed doing them, I figure why not share as well?

Sorry for the long post and huge pics.
If there's any interest, I'll keep putting stuff up as I do them.
Anybody have suggestions? Sometimes I get artist's block.

I think the ones with the most mechanical straight lines work best in your technique. The boba fett is pretty hip. I'm guessing you are taking actual pictures of the subject then tracing over them with some kind of photoshop paint brush then removing the original layer, or something to that degree. The less organic details tend to look the cleanest IMO. Cool results however!

I'm trained in traditional animation, so I pretty much take one frame, rotoscope, then cel paint in photoshop.

I use photos, tweak them to get the layout I want (sometimes usually multiple photos to frankenstein a subject), blue-line trace on another layer as a guide, paint on a different layer, and finally apply the black outlines.

Sometimes I just sketch something, scan it, then work it in the same style.

Those are really nice. If you had a Cafepress page I'd probably buy a coffee mug or something.
