    The Black Hole Gun

As promised to Jason in our upcoming episode of Pod Stallions, I've finally scanned this and put it on the blog for the world to see.

While Disney had a ban on guns in the US (Mego couldn't give their Black Hole characters weapons) it didn't stop UK distributor Marx from attempting to produce a child friendly replica of the awesome hand gun from the movie.

One can only assume that Mego was responsible for this but it doesn't appear to have ever been released. Another chapter in my book "toys not released in the 1970s that make me sad".

Look for episode 7 of Pod Stallions this Friday, our episode is titled "Battle beyond the Star Wars" and is about movies like Black Hole, Message from Space and Star Trek the motion picture.

Cool, this is the first I've heard of this toy. Now, Marx did release a small walking V.I.N.Cent in the UK (not to be confused with the larger walking one released by GiG in Italy). Is it known if Mego had any input on that toy?

Looking forward to the next podcast, it sounds like it will be right up my alley.

Awesome... that should have been released!
Always loved the distinctive gun design in the movie. And having a toy of it would have been great.

If had those I wouldn't mind being gunned by a nervous policeman.
If a Mego figure of God did not exist, it would be necessary for EMCE to invent him.

Always wanted someone to make this. Had to use Tinkertoys to make my own.

That was a very cool and distinctive gun. I would have loved to have one to play war with. Think I would have chose that one over Han Solo's blaster.

What would those Disney censors think of today's world? Wow... I think they would all keel over from shock.

I came on here to see this thread after hearing about it on the podcast, amazing toy! It's a shame it wasn't put into production.

This would be one of toys still highly sought after today if it had been produced.

Very cool! I loved that design.

And now I know why none of the MEGO BH figures had weapons, even those that allowed for them and were pretty pointless w/o them (like the 3.75" Sentries).

Always wanted to find the Palomino that was supposedly issued in Italy.

Weird aside: my sentries had guns. Silver, generic looking laser pistols. Was this a Canada thing?

No, I'm in America and my sentry figure had that same shiny silver pistol. I remember it bugged me as a kid because not only was the gun not even close to screen accurate, the figure only came with one. In the movie, the sentries all had guns in both hands. I was, however, glad that it was actually usable, unlike the Buck Rogers figures with the guns glued permanently to their hips.
