I added more hair and repainted her face to get rid of the eyebrows and her lipstick. It's not the best photograph since I work better with natural light. But I think it's more true to her character (my apologies to all you Mego purists)...http://megomuseum.com/mmgallery/files/1/2/4/4/lab029.jpg

Per Critter2's question below, I used Apoxie air dry medium for the hair, and used a clear auto acrylic primer (learned my lesson, thanks to all involved).

WOW! That really nails the character. Amazing what some hair resculpting and repainting does. Very impressed!

Remarkable. I always loved how Zira looked in the movie, and while the Mego sculpt has it's own charm you've really captured that look. Bravo!

Hey... what color combination did you use for her face?

Thanks everyone for your input. I'm so happy she turned out the way she did. I checked out the paint I used, and it's a mixture of #433 Terra Cotta by Folk Art and Medium Flesh by Delta Ceramcoat. I had a sideshow Zira nearby for color reference, and I went a little bit lighter than the Sideshow because I wanted Zira's hands to match her face. I also dry-brushed a mixture of the above with a bit of #72060 Brown from CraftEssentials (JoAnn house paint) underneath her brow ridges to bring out the shadow. Her hair was #72034 Black from JoAnn's, dry-brushed with a bit of brown.

Thats some really awesome work Jes! The sculpting and paints are top notch. I like using Apoxy Sculpt too, but I find it can be a bear to work with sometimes!

Jess, that looks great. You sculpted the head yourself as well?

jessica
Feb 20, '08, 12:01 PM
No, the head is an original mego that I attached more hair to. Isn't it amazing what a new hairdo can do?:smiley1:

I seem to have a hard time capturing the look of hair when sculpting. You sculpted the lines in the hair to look just like Mego did it. Nice work!

Thank you, Mike. I was actually just trying to match what was already there.

That is great! Too bad it couldn't be cast. I would buy one for myself!

Isn't it possible to cast something like this? Surely someone like Ian or someone Stateside could make a mold of the head without damaging it?

Or, maybe Jessica will give molding/casting a go and make some money to buy a few more MEGOs?
