New Trek film pushed back to May 2009

BREAKING NEWS: Star Trek Pushed To May 2009 [UPDATED] | TrekMovie.com

Doesn't really bother me. The additional time can only help if things need to be tweeked or fixed. And I understand them wanting to aim for (what they think is) a thinner summer blockbuster spot. All the recent Trek film openings have been in November or December, and they make their $20-25M the opening weekend, then drop off. Maybe if the flick actually turns out to be GOOD, it'll have better legs in the summer.

    Whatever.

Maybe the delay is a bit of a warning sign they think they have a turkey on their hands? If they thought it was great they might be in more of a hurry to get it out?

Hopefully they will at least add Shatner now. Praise be Shatner!
You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

Like the article says, I think it has more to do with the post writers-strike shuffling around of release slots. They think the film will have a stronger position in the new slot vs. the old.

Usually I get worried when I hear news like this, but this time they actually have a legit reason. I agree Werewolf--bring in Shat!

As much as I love Shatner, I don't wanna see him in this new movie.

Spock is ok because Vulcans live a lot longer than humans...and I'm sure he's in the film because he will act as the narrator as well...he'd be the only old timer needed.

Besides, the whole point is to feature new actors in familiar roles.

I'm looking foward to this new venture, and I'm glad they are taking a step back to fine tune this endeavour.

                  Maybe it's cautious optimism.
They really are going where no man/one has gone before. This one is a bigger risk than any other Trek film ever before. Unfamiliar faces in familiar roles. It could rock or it could really suck. Half of it will be the actual story they tell and the other half whether or not they nail the actor/character they're playing.

The only thing that's bad about the release date from my P.O.V., is all the other boards I visit w/all the numerous threads about the teaser, and the Enterprise will be prolonged. It's funny to see all the ST fans that are up in arms about the fact they are re-doing everything, and refuse to accept the fact that pretty much everything is re imagined. At first it did bother me a little, but I'm thankful that I'm not too passionate about it anymore. This sort of thing might have killed me in Jr. High, however...

I think the delay could turn out to be good...especially if the Director wants to make changes/re-writes...now that the Writer's strike is over...HE CAN!

I think this is a good move as well, it can only serve to make the movie stronger.

As for Shat, I can't see what all the hoo-ha is about. As much as I like him, he would only ham it up to the point of looking absurd within the new framework of the movie. It would be like having Tom Baker come back as the Doctor in the new series, he would look so out of place.

^ ^ I agree, especially given that JJ Abrams has said that the actor playing Kirk would not emulate any of Shatner's mannerisms. If Shatner were in, it would stand in marked contrast to what sounds like a toned-down approach to the character.

You won't find a bigger William Shatner Fan than Me...but He's dead in the Next Gen. future(which was a BIG mistake!)...so He can't time travel back with Spock. It doesn't fit with the story...so I don't think He shouldn't be in it.
