And here is why.
OK, so I am 36, and haven't gotten anything Mego for Christmas in oh, probably 30 of those years give or take (I am too lazy to do the math :p). I also haven't provided a Christmas list in many years, but this year I was asked what I wanted, and I thought about some things I was looking to pick up, and thought screw it, I am making an X-Mas list.
The number one thing on my list was World's Greatest Toys. I sent out my E-Mail list with a link to twomorrows publishing for the collectors edition, also providing a link to Amazon, in case the collectors edition was too much for someone, or sold out. I really wasn't counting on getting it, thinking people would pass it over for more practical items I don't need, and would never use. :p And if anyone did get it for me, I figured it would be my brother, since he shares the love for Mego.
So I am having dinner with my folks and my brother on Christmas eve, and we exchange gifts afterwards. I get down to the last gift, which was from my Mother. I rip it open, and BAM, MEGO GOODNESS! Collectors Edition to boot! I honestly felt like a kid again, and thoughts of my younger days, and the excitement of Christmas toys rushed through my head as I flipped through looking at all the jaw dropping, mouth watering photos. Sure this wasn't a toy, but it might as well have been.
Something Mego, from my Mother, on Christmas. Definitely felt like the 70's.
Ben, you did an amazing job with this book. It is a real beauty. I want to thank you for helping to make my Christmas a memorable one. I gotta say, usually I am a bit of a Scrooge in my older days, but this year I definitely had the Christmas spirit. It sounds cheesy, I know, but I also don't care.
EVERY fan of Mego should have this book. By far the best book on the company to ever see print.
Anyway, just thought I would share. Hope I didn't bore you all too much.
Still a Mego kid, Jason
P.S. The hilarious thing about all of this, is that since my Mother ordered the book for me, the post card that came with it, was signed to HER. We all got a kick out of that. Guess that just adds to the memory. :p Just glad the book wasn't signed to her as well. LOL
