I don't mind the Mugato coming first. We get monkey feet. And I'm sure the Cheron is on the list. Congrats Doc and ECME.

Me too...I never cared to own the Original...so I certainly won't be buying the Repro.:ugh_y:

Is there REALLY a demand for a vintage-style Mugato ???

The rehashing of old figures is getting to me. One new figure per 10 released? Not really good there. I guess I'm waiting for Kahn. Hopefully more new stuff is on the way beside the same ole same ole.

Yay! A new Uhura w/ decent hair! I can't wait!

A show accurate Mugato would have been nice, but I actually like the classic figure. I think his tacky 70s duds gives him his charm. I'm happy he is getting released before the Cheron which I always felt was kinda of bland looking figure.
I think the coolest thing though is the new female body for Uhura. The CTVT ones certainly had issues and I despise the Breyer bodies.
I'm sort of happy to be able to get a Mugato outfit; the ones I have are nekkid, and one has the horn sawed off. It's not worth it to me to buy a vintage one just for the crappy outfit, but I'll happily get a repro.
That said, I'm dyin' for a show accurate suit. There's a market if someone wants to make 'em. Hell, some store could sell 'em - just an outfit for the mugato!

Maybe I'm wrong, but it looks like all the new (Khan, Yeoman Rand, etc.) are going to be exclusive chase figures.

I don't know who leaked that picture, but I know it wasn't me!
The reality of the Mugato is that a show accurate one looks like a teddy bear in white.
Go look at the Playmates 12 inch Mugato to see that.
Did I want to make him in white fur? yes.
Did I have the final say in it? no.
Would I like to see him in white fur in a later release? yes.
Can I promise that will happen? no.

Loose mint original Cheron $40
loose mint original mugato $400
-mugato seems like the right choice to me

This is the BEST news I've heard all day!!
Two exellent choices!!
For one, I never would spend $350-$400 for a Mugato, so this is a great way to get one.
I for one want ALL the first 14 figures to come out first, then we can get into getting some new ones.
This is good day for ST MEGO's replicas!!
Lynn
Doc, can you confirm that these two will be the next regular release?
I'm pleased with the selection as well. I'd definitely like a show Muggy, but I'm happier with this than Cheron. We've run out of options for crew members compared to Aliens. Hopefully we'll see some of the extended crew being made to pair up with Cheron (cough *Sulu* cough), Neptunian (cough *Chekov* cough), and even Gorn (cough *Yeoman Rand* cough). I doubt we'll see a Talosian, at least line accurate since it would require the new body, but I'll take an 8 inch one if it means another crew member (cough *Nurse Chapel* cough).
Finally seeing another option for female bodies is great.
Obviously with Uhura and Zira being made, that had to happen. Can you share any details of the body? Any changes, or have you seen any factory prototypes of the body? I assume the quality will be better than our Indian friends managed (that's a given), but how will it compare to a Mego body? Will they be available on you site as a stand alone purchase?
Anyway, congrats on continuing this line. Bring on the new figures!

Thank you Dr Mego, for getting new Mego figures in the stores again. Thanks for getting Khan in this lineup!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What I love about Mego's Mugato is how good he'll look in my Star Raiders set!
And I'm encouraging my favorite comic stores to stick with you, by grabbing as many as possible- so far I've got 4 Romulans, 4 Andorians, and 8 Klingons!! (Has anyone noticed how good Chopper looks as a Klingon?) To all Mego heads in Dallas/Ft Worth, if you haven't been yet, go to Zeus Toys & Comics, Keith's Comics (both in Dallas) or the mighty Lone Star Comics (all over!) to get these guys!

If people are willing to pay over $350-$400 for an origonal one...
Then obviously.. YES!!!
It wouldn't be that high a price if there wasn't a demand no matter how rare it is or isn't.
People will jump all over this one at these low prices that don't want to spend the big $$$ for one I can assure you that.
I know I will....
No way in HELL will it kill the line, pretty narrow minded if you think that.

Wow! I have to say Lt. Uhura is beautiful!!! I still wish she would have gotten the black hose and shorts, but I guess I can add them. And as goofy as the Mugato looks, I will get him!
Wonder why the Gorn isn't showing up yet? Could it be a series accurate Gorn ala Hulk body will show up first???

I'm down
Never cared for the look of Mugato much, which is why I was never willing to pay the price to get an original. I WILL pay $15.00 however.
I want to see all the Trek figures reissued, whether I own the originals or not. I like the idea of having some that I can mess around with, photograph and display, without worrying about dust, damage, and deterioration.
I do see this set as being the lowest selling all around though.

The Mugato in that pic looks like an original. His top is faded and there looks to be a belt stain. Surely Docs not going for a truely authentic faded and stained look :wink_y: I presume he is just a stand in teaser as the mock ups haven't been produced yet?
In fact, looking again it wouldn't surprise me if Uhura is an original as well.

Actually I stumbled across an auction a couple months back where a certain Dr. of Megos had purchased a very nice Mugato which I assumed might be heading over seas. I didn't wanna start any rumors so I kept it kinda a secret except for a couple of people. I like it. Just have enough differences to keep anyone from thinking it's original but close enough to satisfy a collector that can't or won't spend the money on an original. Great work Doc and EMCE. Keep em coming. Uhura completes the original crew so could Sulu or Chekov be in the works?? Someone has to pair up with Cheron and the Gorn. Still like to see a Talosian also. Time will tell.

I'm very pleased to see Mugato being made like the original figure, because I'd like to have one but I'm not about to pay the hundreds it'd cost to get an original of that funky lookin' guy, lol. As much as I like the prospect of future screen accurate Gorns, Mugato's, etc. These are reproductions of the classic Mego figures and they should preserve the original wonky designs as a testament to how toys were done back then. I am buying these because they are like the 70's toys (with all their beautiful warts)
The best would be a 2 pack with a screen accurate Gorn or Mugato coupled with the wonky Mego repro version. And if a later release of screen accurate versions came out after the faithful repro, I would buy both.
But make no mistake, I am glad that the wonky intergalactic Disco pimp Mugato will be reproed in all the 70's off model, flight of toy designer fancy glory and hope the other Aliens will be accurate to the 70's figures (with the hope also that accurate ones will come later)

Wonky? Cool word, Mike.:smiley1: But I do agree w/ you. I'm glad these repros are being done in true 70s style, 'cos we all know that was the best time to be a kid, and the greatest time when we had that cool Mego goodness! I say, embrace the cheesiness! Let the Mugato be funky and wonky! That's what makes these figures fun! Share the memories w/ the kids of today. I know my kids (at least the ones I babysit), love classic Mego!

Of course the "wonkiness" of the originals is what made Mego so cool in the first place, but the perfectionist in me is screaming to make it screen accurate! if we were somehow assured a SA one was coming, I wouldn't care one way or another, but until one is announced, my mind is busy figuring out how to make a SA one!
Oh, and in case any of you are still scratching your heads to why the Mugato was chosen: http://cgi.ebay.com/Mego-Star-Trek-Aliens-Mugato-MOC-C-7-8_W0QQitemZ110051141633QQihZ001QQcategoryZ1169QQrd Z1QQssPageNameZWD1VQQtrksidZp1638.m118.l1247QQcmdZ ViewItem

I agree. As a kid in the 70's Mugato and the Neptunian were my FAVORITE mego bad guys ( plus, in my child-mind the Mugato was a POTA superhero!) ...they battled the mego knights, heroes, whatever, you name it. And lets face it, they are both somewhat ridiculous. I think the super bright colors and tacky outfits made them SO different to the Trek guys you knew they were up to no good. But I loved (and still do) Star Trek Megos (had everyone but the romulan) and as a kid more or less loathed the TV show... so my opinion is probably null and void.

I'm thrilled to see the line continue and the fact that even one new figure is being issued makes me hopeful of more in the future. I have no problem with reissuing all the old figures first since it's obvioulsy working. Just in a business sense you can't fault anyone for making money off the "sure thing" before taking a risk. I'm betting many of the reissues were bought by people who had the originals as a child and said "I remember these". Again in a business sense there has to a fear that some of those buys will be lost when new figures are issued and nostagia buys could be lost. The next logical step is combo packs with retro aliens and new crew members. Taking advantage of both nostalgia buys and the same time gradually getting those collector adjusted to new figures. Kind of the same way the current packs go for both the nostalgia buff (retro crew) and serious collector (ressues of aliens whose original figures may be out of reach due to price range). Keep 'em coming!

Ugh, I hate the original Mugatu figure. If there's one original figure I don't want, it's this one.
But I'm definitely going to buy it. I'm buying the whole line and I support the idea to reproduce them as exactly as possible. But it might not ever get opened...

That's very true... Virdon was never meant to be an alien...
And, I hate the half black/half white outfit, they should do a grey one like on the show... And give him hair!

I have been in the market to buy an original Mugato to complete my Star Trek aliens. This will make a great addition until I can find an original at a non dope smoking price. This is good news as far as I am concerned. Yay Diamond and EMCE for making it happen. Keep them coming! Retro or not here I come.
Just a thought - In order to solve the "chase figure" dilemma which is posted here at The Museum in another forum how about making screen accurate figures for the "chase figures" and or exclusives? One chase figure per 10 regular/new issued figures or something like that anyway. This would be a simple solution if there just has to be "chase figures" made. Now if we could only get Diamond to buy into our idea. I now know that this is pretty much out of Doc's hands and it is pretty much up to Diamond at this point since they hold the license to Star Trek anyway. "Some day" when EMCE becomes a fortune 500 company and buys up the licenses maybe we can have it our way.
