Trek-2 used to be my fav for a lot of years ......
But for some reason, I started liking 3 a lot more lately....
I think because of the STEALING THE ENTERPRISE parts.
I just LOVE those scenes :)

First Contact for me. Can't go wrong with a movie with the Borg in it.

I too find my favorite changing from time to time T1K. As a whole, I prefer TWOK because it best represented classic Trek.
However, I really enjoy TMP, not from a story pov, but from a fan of Treknology viewpoint. TMP went to great lengths to show every nook and cranny of the good ship Enterprise. I watch this film just to sit back and enjoy the backgrounds.
Three is fun, and really shows the crew pulling together. From a Treknology view, we also have the Excelsior sets to drool over, as well as the Oberth class vessel.
Four, is fun, but I think its a tad overrated.(and theres no new Treknology!)
Five....After reading the Gary Mitchell version, I just close my eyes and whistle.
Six....cool story, and lots of eye candy with the new Bridge set.
Any and all of the TNG versions blow chunks in my opinion. Just never came to like TNG...movies or otherwise.

Khan all the way. It just had everything awesome about Trek. Although I agree, the stealing of the Enterprise in 3 ranks right up there.
6 ranks high with me as well.

The only thing I didn't like about 6 was it seemed to be written very haphazardly.
A few examples that makes me cringe when I see 6 ........
Klingon's liking Shakespeare.
Uhura's comment about "the thing's gotta have a tail pipe".
The whole English to Klingon translation scene.
The galley on the Enterprise.
Scotty having an Enterprise tech schematic as a dinner place-mat.
I could go on...

Hmm--The movie is not perfect by any means, can't think of one that is, but I can handle a few goofy lines as opposed to Kirk just being an complete idiot. (the whole reason they get into trouble in TWOK) Although the rest of the movie is really really good, I can't get past that.

The Undiscovered Country. 2 Shatners fighting each other and rolling over Bones in the process. It doesn't get much better than that.

Have to go with Wrath of Khan. It had all of the classic elements of the show except bigger. Plus I'm a huge sucker for the space battle.

Wow... cool new boards! Just had to post in this one, T1K: I voted for Khan I think because it has lots of nostalgia value to me... plus it has Khan--what better villain is there in all the Trek films combined? A hero is only as good as his villain is bad.

My personal Best-to-Worst
1. The Wrath of Khan
Best ever.
2. The Motion Picture
I surprised even myself putting this one here. After all these years, I guess I've grown nostalgically fond of it. Makes me want a Happy Meal.
3. The Voyage Home
The height of the campy era, but c'mon, it just feels good. Plus, I live in the area it was filmed, so it always neat to watch a movie like that.
4. First Contact
The only Next Generation Movie that lived up to it's potential.
5. The Search For Spock
I think it's underated. I was never gonna be as good as Wrath of Khan, but had some good stuff.
6. The Undiscovered Country
Because it was better than number 7.
7. The Final Frontier
I didn't hate it.
8. Insurrection
Again, I don't recall hating it. But I don't recall much of anyhting else about it, either.
9. Generations
Ok, somebody just send Shatner home. This is getting ridiculous. Plus, what's a Star Trek movie if we don't destroy the Enterprise?
10. Nemesis
Strange that I would put this at the bottom, since I loved it when they called it Wrath of Khan. The only one I totally HATED.
Of course, I'm always hoping the next one will be be my new favorite.

I totally get that, I was so buying the hype as a kid that the movie makes me all fuzzy and nostalgic.

One sequence in Motion Picture is one of my fav Star Trek sequences in the entire movie series run....
The LONG travel pod trip where Scotty is giving a drooling Kirk the grand tour with the new Trek theme song as background music.
Seem like just about everybody I talk to HATE the scene.. calling it BORING as hell and one reason Motion Picture sucks.
Me, when I watch that scene--- it takes me back to seeing TMP for the first time in the movies and being WOW, THAT'S A COOL SHIP.

Mine constantly changes from UC to TWOK. Today it's UC. Such a great send-off to Kirk and crew. They should have left it there. Now the rankings for me:
1. Undiscovered Country: See above
2. Khan: What a movie. Just a great movie, even if it wasn't Trek.
3. Seatch for Spock: First one I saw in the theater. Still get chills when they blow up the Enterprise and remembering my dad softly utter "damn" when it blew.
4. Voyage Home: Just a fun episode of Trek. "Shore Leave" on the big screen.
5. Final Frontier: I actually LIKE this one. The camping scene is a lot of fun.
6. First Contact: Best TNG movie. Picard actually kicks arse...FINALLY.
7. Galaxy Quest. It's the best Trek movie in years. There.
8. TMP: There's a good movie in there. If you get past the over-indulgence in the FX and the pajamas. Too bad they already did it in "The Changeling" on TV.
9. Generations: I liked this one a lot better at first. Now I don't like it much. For one, Kirk is grossly out of character. And the decision to kill him was wrong. Esp. since the Next Gen movie series fizzled out soon.
10. Insurrection. I barely remember this movie. A 2-hr long TNG episode, and not even a real good one.
*Nemesis: Never saw it. Heard so much bad stuff about it from people I trust, I've just passed it by. I really need to see it though.

You really should almost have made this "what is your SECOND favorite Trek Movie"
Trek II is just in a different league from the rest. My second would probably be First Contact (although Trek III is pretty close.)
Also I didnt think Nemesis was all that bad, to me Insurrection is by far the least memorable.

The Undiscovered Country has it all for me and it's a great swansong for the original crew.

1 The Wrath of Khan ...space battles apart it has the best crew ineraction of the lot.
2 The Undiscovered Country...the D7 turning in space scene alone nearly knocks it off top spot.
3 The Motion Picture...some stunning fx scenes
4 The Search for Spock...the Enterprise exploding was more emotional for me than Spock dying.
5 The Final Frontier...shame Shant couldn't give us the movie he wanted
6 The Voyage home...time travel shenanigans don't really do it for me.
7 Generations...at least it has a couple of the originals in it
8 First Contact...the battle scenes were ok
the other 2 were drival...........appaling...

Hmm - I missed the voting on this poll
while KAHN is hands down the best, I would have thrown a bone to Generations - I love that movie. No one else did????
And Undiscovered Country got 4 votes? I mean it wasn't terrible but there are half a dozen better than it.
to each his own...
I just realized Fett Dug this thread up out of the past.
Oh well.
1 Kahn
2 Generations
3 Motion Picture
4 Voyage Home
5 Search for Spock
6 First Contact

I loved Wrath of Kahn on its first run ---mostly because of TMP's previous V'Ger bore-fest...
But on reflection, it's not my fav of the Classic movie series.

My top five in order of preference:
1. The Wrath of Khan - by a (Ricardo Moltoban) nose
2. The Undiscovered Country - although "Generations" screwed up a perfect ending
3. Insurrection
4. First Contact
5. The Search for Spock - "How can you have a Red Alert in Spacedock?" "Sir! Someone is stealing the Enterprise!"

No love for the final frontier?
When I saw this, I had just gotten back together with a girlfriend and we had an awesome night. To me, it was the BEST Star Trek movie ever made, I told all my friends.
It took me a while to realize, I was just in a great mood that night and the movie was pretty, well, average at best.

The context we see hear and experience things in has a great affect on our liking.
I havfe disliked "good" movies and liked "bad" movies for reasons unrelated to the films.

I think I shared here that I got all ten on DVD for my birthday. My wife is hands down a Next Generation fan. She waa glad to see all the Next Generation movies, and I keep rewatching the original ones. I hadn't seen them in a while, so it was a real delight to watch them.
I've always thought the even numbered ones of the original cast were better than the odd numbered ones. Here's how I would rank them
1. Wrath of Khan
2. Undiscovered Country
3. The Voyage Home
4. The Motion Picture
5. The Search for Spock
6. The Final Frontier - I was really disappointed by this one because it was, in my opinion a remake of The Motion Picture. Directed by Shatner. In Search of...God.
7. Insurrection
8. First Contact
9. Nemesis
10. Generations - Picard, Kirk, Guinan, Malcolm McDowell. How could this one disappoint?
I liked the Next Generation movies. I just think I was more disappointed that none of them could really top (my) the "fan favorite" episodes. I could watch the Q episodes and Borg episodes - heck, just about any one of the series episodes - five times before I would re-watch one of the Next Gen movies. Of course, I was comparing them to the original cast, never a good idea...

I guess for most of us, it goes without saying that II would be our choice for the best movie.
But I do have a soft spot for TMP, if for no other reason than it was my first experience with new Trek and not reruns.
