I'd have to say 'Trading Places', I think it's a masterpiece of a movie.

sorry..."48 hours" just got done watching it. oh and i forgot Shrik
Hector
Feb 2, '08, 9:36 PM
48 Hours is great too...but a tad under Trading Places.
1. Trading Places
2. 48 Hours
3. Beverly Hills Cop
4. Coming to America
5. The Golden Child
I don't count Shrek because I simply don't count voice-overs as "real" acting...and I didn't count 'Delirious' or "Raw" because it's stand up concert films, but 'Delirious' and 'Raw' are probably his best stuff ever as far as being hilarious is concerned.

Beverly Hills Cop, funny and good action.......48 hours a close second and Trading places third.

48 Hours is a gritty crime drama/action movie with moments of inspired hilarity, while Trading Places is a goofy screwball comedy. So... take your pick which genre you prefer; those first two movies of his are still his best!

What was that REALLY bad movie with him and Dudley Moore, Eddie was a tank driver and Dudley was the designer?
As for me, "48 Hours" than "Coming To America", over "Trading Places".
I never saw it, but didn't he play in a recent movie about three black women singers (forget name). As for awards go, that would be his best movie, but I do not know how big of a role he played.

I know its baudy and pretty stupid, but for for a leave-your-brain-at-the-door-flick, The Nutty Professor does the job.

Geez...this thread is somewhat of a bust.
LIFE starring Eddie and Martin Lawrence hasn't even been MENTIONED and its been
four pages. ??????
And BOWFINGER too???? You guys are missing out.
If LIFE or BOWFINGER aren't Eddie's best ---its close.
48 Hrs. and Coming To America are two of what I think are his best as well.
Beverly Hills Cop is also great, but a little less dimensional
Trading Places, altho' fun, is flimsy enough to say its substandard
IMO and can't hold up to those other 3 80s classics
I adore Another 48 Hrs.
although I shouldn't---its pretty much a retread of the first---
but I love seeing Nolte and Eddie together again
I should own the NUTTY PROFESSOR movies, then I could make a fair judgement
about 'em--- I remember thinking they were really great though--- haven't
seen NORBIT, but I'm guessing it was great
Eddie as "DONKEY" in SHREK comes off a bit too overbearing and sappy---if
anything I liked him better in MULAN
In the end though I'd say its between 48 Hrs. BOWFINGER and LIFE for me---
LIFE is just brilliant--- go see it ---you won't regret it
same for BOWFINGER
Life was mentioned on page 2 of this thread by Txteach.

Life was mentioned on page 2 of this thread by Txteach.
good snag there boss
I didn't see the one-liner he left and I stand corrected.
I still wanna wave for the flag for LIFE and BOWFINGER---
they are obviously two that seem to have flown under the radar around here
---at least comparatively to the rest of the flicks.
The interesting thing about LIFE, other than that its one of Eddie's best---
is how it spans over many decades----from, like the 30s into the 90s
if I have the 30s as a starting point straight (could even be the late 20s)

I've never even heard of LIFE! I'm excited that there's a great Eddie movie out there that I haven't seen. Can't wait to rent it this weekend....
Oh, and if people are including RAW in their lists of Eddie's greats, I want to add what is possibly the greatest hour of stand-up ever filmed:
DELIRIOUS. I watched this on youtube the other day for the fitst time in 15 years, and ironically enough I had forgotten that I had almost the entire thing memorized. It's a tour de force of comedic talent and peformance ability! Eddie should do more stand-up nowadays as a sideline to his acting career....

Have a good time watching LIFE (I know what its like to be excited about a
flick that flew under the radar that you're ready to discover for the first time)
You'll love it Vort :)
DELIRIOUS? You can bet I have that one pretty much memorized too.
Used to listen to it so much at camp I think its imprinted in my brain.

I can't believe it's on nobody's top 3 --- except mine

Feb 6, '08, 10:04 PM
If I'm not mistaken, Harlem Nights was Murphy's single directorial effort. I enjoyed the one time I saw it (it must have been a dream come true for Eddie to work with two of his idols, Richard Pryor and Redd Foxx), but I also remember being rather underwhelmed. If you say it's excellent, Type1, then I should give it another shot!
I notice the only movies people aren't mentioning are the BH Cop sequels and Haunted Mansion -- the last one being a particular low point in Eddie's career.
