official ROBINSON CRUSOE ON MARS appreciation thread

    I haven't watched Robinson in years ......
Thought i'd lost it in my last move......
It's a recorded from TV - to VHS -and finally to DVD-R copy.

Last night I was going through my old unmaked DVD's-- and low and behold.
    A nice surprise

So I sat down and watched it.......
Dang, I still love this move !!!!!

Effects are acceptable (for an early 60's low budget flick)
Music Score is FABULOUS and very heroic.
Story is slow, but if you are into this kind of story-- it's very cool.

In this day and age, I still can't believe it's never been released on official DVD.

I've seen it a few times, it's well done but it kind of veers off into some surreal territory. The effects appear to be some sort of animation, especially the alien ships.

I think the Alien ships are lifted from War of the Worlds

I was watching a movie on AMC on night and I had to go to work the next day so I had to turn it off. I didn't know what it was called, and it took me years to find out that it was Robinson Crusoe On Mars. I STILL haven't seen the whole movie, but I loved what I did see and it's on my Netflix list now. I can't wait to see the movie from beginning to end. Stranded on Mars in a survival situation? Cool! A monkey companion? Awesome! War of the Worlds type alien ships? Even better!

I've seen it a few times, and that's enough. I wouldn't pay a dollar to own it on DVD. They really had to stretch to put Dafoe's characters in space, and the effort comes off as pretty clumsy and dull. It would've worked much better as a western.

Probably just swiped from stills and animated.

I recorded this of the Sci-Fi Channel some years ago. I may even still have it. I haven't seen it since then, but I do remember enjoying it.

It almost seems like two movies to me, the first half seems to make the concept scientifically possible (at least for the mid sixties) and is pretty strong. Then in the second half they throw aliens into the mix and it denegrates into a chase.

I like this film. Saw it on TV years ago. The training film where the instructor lectures the astronaut on dying of thirst, adding you can't drink your own urine because it's too salty, then takes a drink of water on the film, was classic!

I thought the Adam West appearance was quite good too. Until he encounters the aliens it seemed a pretty good film about a man grapling with his solitude. I could believe he was on Mars if only they had made it appear slightly red-er.

Wow, i'm surprised -- and HAPPY Robinson was finally released on DVD.

I'll bet it's going to kill the lazer disc sales (which it used to sell from $50.00 on up)

                        BTW,
Yes, it was like 2 seperate movies thrown together.
I like the beginning survival parts better than the Friday alein stuff .....
But, as a whole I do like the whole movie.

The bad dream sequence with West was actually a little scary.
When I first seen it, I used to think West was a zombie

I loved this film when I was a kid, I haven't seen it in years, I used to think the monkey with him was funny, but when you're like 9 years old you don't see the more serious side it's just a sci-fi movie, that duel level of film is missing in a lot of modern movies IMO

                            If anyone is interested .........
Years ago on eBay the original mat-painting of the polar ice-cap was auctioned off.
                            I saved the auction pic.
                            Makes a pretty nice wallpaper.
