Are you going to see Battleship?
Adam West
May 18, '12, 12:14 PM
I said "no" simply because I only make a habit of seeing a couple of movies in the theater per year due to ticket prices plus time (I haven't even had a chance to see "The Avengers" yet). The only movie I have seen to date is "The Hunger Games" and probably wouldn't have seen that if my daughter hadn't begged me to go.

I'm just curious about demand for a movie loosely based on a board game my friend cheats at.

I can't bring myself to plunk down my hard-garnered sheckles these days for what looks to be basically like a "TRANSFORMERS" retread. Plus, I would find it hard to even remotely take it "seriously" (I know, I know, it's a popcorn flick) another movie that casts an untested (as an actress) hip-hop/dance singer in a quasi-dramatic role as a Naval officer....

(I haven't even had a chance to see "The Avengers" yet).
Nor me,my GF has been working crazy shifts, just waiting for her to get back to a normal shift pattern so we can go see it.
Prometheus is another one I would not mind seeing also.

Our matinee prices are $9.50. If I were going alone that would be one thing, but it's usually 3 or 4 of us. Really it is just having a busy schedule on the weekends which makes it difficult to see all the movies I would like to see.

It might be surprisingly good, but I doubt if I'd give it a chance because there are better films I still haven't seen. From the trailer, it seems it has little to do with the game, apart from having ships.

I have a small group of friends who make a habit of going to see the biggest and dumbest movies that come out - and I sometimes join them. If this movie is a huge flop it probably increases my chances of seeing it.

I'm not sure if you're kidding, but "Monopoly" is a for-real movie project that's being worked out and Ridley Scott is connected to it. "Candyland" is being developed as a film project by Adam Sandler's company

Lol, yeah, I knew that. I just find it darkly humourous that I can picture them having tons of CGI explosions too. Now, I was totally joking about the Ant in the Pants and Cootie. Though, I wouldn't put it past Bay.

I really cannot see any situation where I'd pay money to a theater to see Battleship. Avengers? Yes. Dark Knight? yes. Spider-Man? Yup. Freakin Battleship? I'm fairly certain Neeson pulls a Qui-Gon early in the film, so don't expect much out of him.

I took the "from the company that brought you Transformers" as warning. Personally I don't see how Liam Neeson is allowed to make movies anymore. I honestly can't stand any movie he's in. They always look good in the trailers but then I see them and it's a total let down. Too much action, no story.

It's like he and Johnny Depp has a bet who can play in the most movies ever.
Back in the day Liam Neeson was a respected actor but lately he'll play in anything for a buck.

It actually doesn't look bad, despite the flimsy premise and horrible corporate tagline, but it's not anything I'd pay big bucks to drag myself and any of the family to. When it comes to DVD and Cindy can pick it up at the library for free, I'll gladly watch.
I'm betting the guy who played John Carter is hoping for a hit hard here. Poor guy deserves a break.

Forecast: 'Battleship' Will Likely Miss 'Avengers' - Box Office Mojo (http://boxofficemojo.com/news/?id=3444&p=.htm)
Looks like it will still be a hit based on the worldwide box-office thus far. A bigger win for Hasbro than GI Joe was. Big loud action movies with little plot to get in the way of the CG appears to play well overseas. Look for Monopoly, Cranium, Risk, Pictionary, Candy Land, Snakes and Ladders, and Twister at your local multiplex inside of the next few years. Go Bots? M.A.S.K.? My Little Ponies? Cabbage Patch Kids? Beyblades? Lincoln Logs? Zoids? Magic the Gathering? Hasbro Studios will make it into a movie eventually.

They were talking about making a Warcraft movie a few years back and I totally would've been into that, but I'm not sure it's still even being developed. At one point Uwe Boll looked into it. He said, "I got in contact with Paul Sams of Blizzard, and he said, 'We will not sell the movie rights, not to you...especially not to you. Because it's such a big online game success, maybe a bad movie would destroy that ongoing income, what the company has with it." So at least they want a good director if anything is ever done with it.

By the end of WWII..battleships were just no match for aircraft carriers...just ask Japan's flagship...the Yamato.

It's official, Battleshiup BOMBED at the box office bringing in 25.3 million, less than half of Avengers this weekend at 55 mil. It may redeem itself in the coming weeks, but it's not looking good. It was a good Movie ..., no way near the Quality flick Avengers is ...., but it also doesn't have Comicbook Characters 70 years old or whatever in it either.
People who like Navy Ships and Aircraft Carriers will really like the Movie. I think there were some real Vets in the Film too, and the Film takes place off of Hawaii, so there's some Peral Harbor stuff.

I'll need to revise my response from "maybe on cable" to "yes if I'm going along with some friends of mine".
They actually do stop the movie part way through to play Battleship. And there were folks set up at tables in the foyer to play battleship with you as well.
Loud dumb predictable spectacle. Went in expecting nothing, was pleasantly surprised to have had a good time (even if we were kind of goofin' on it). This should hold us over until Expendables 2 comes out.
