Planning on making it to my first Megomeet. So how does the trading go on at this thing? Are attendees allowed to bring in backpacks and shoulder bags? Do you wonder around asking people if they have trade stuff? Will I be reduced to wearing a sandwich board with my trade list posted on it?

Hey, you're not my dad!
So your dad has frequent discussions with you on this subject? I guess you'll be easy to spot at the meet. I'll say hi. :smiley1:

There really isn't anything official for a swap meet, just sort of feel your way around. I don't see alot of trades going on at the Meets, but I'm probably missing them. The bottom line is you're coming to the show so you'll come out on top regardless of any deals you could potentially make.

I've traded there before. Just bring your stuff and if you see something at a dealer's table, barter away. The worst that can happen is they say "no...cash only."

Since you brought it up: do any of the vendors take credit cards or are these cash only deals?

Credit card sales are rare - bring cash unless you've got Paypal mobile

I paid a few people via paypal last year rather than running to the bank machine for the umpteenth time.

Something I am experimenting with is the ability to swipe a credit/debit card with either my iPhone or iPad.
I signed up for a freebie (no annual membership fee sort of thing) deal:
Accept credit cards with your iPhone, Android or iPad – Square (http://www.squareup.com)
They send you the scanner (that plugs into your headphone jack) for free.
They charge 2.75% per transaction and direct deposit it into your account next day.
Who knows if I will really use it...but I guess it's something to have these days.

Rather than lugging bags of stuff around, maybe you can just get a table. Leave your stuff on it and let folks know it's available for cash or trade. Easy peezy.

I use Swipe & Square.
Both have ups/downs. Free to use. % of sales. Nice way for anyone to take a credit card.

The biggest problem with taking credit cards at a show, especially the meet,
is that it's hard to get signal strength to process the transaction.
Does the Toy and Train Museum have WiFi?
Paypal is a good idea.

I thought I read somewhere recently where Steve said they boosted the WiFi at the Museum.
In my particular case; I'll have my AT&T 3g iPhone or my Verizon 3g iPad...and WiFi as another option.
Granted, I have to get my run of figures done so I have something to sell... :smiley1::smiley1:

For my booth, I'll be taking credit cards with Square on my cellphone. So if I have to go outside to get a signal, I'll do it during a break.
