Hopefully this will shake the cobwebs from DC and Warner Bros and they can get on a quick path to a JLA movie of the same magnitude...although I have doubts that will ever happen now that they are so far behind the curve...

I would be okay with a QUALITY JLA movie and I don't think, after dining on the prime rib that is THE AVENGERS, that audiences would settle for hamburger, if that's what WB decided to throw on the plate. And PLEASE don't make it any of this New 52 crap!!!!!

I have an idea for a JL movie that involves Darkseid invading the Earth (which would be set up in the Superman film). I suppose that people would say it's a copy from what The Avengers did though.

Dark Shadows seems good (in usual Tim Burton fashion) but no reason to bump The "We made $700 million worldwide in 1 month!" Avengers.

I thought it was great movie but still waiting for DKR!

Nothing can top Batman for me! Christopher Nolans series is the best!

I really hope there is a sense of Riddler in the works at some point!

...tis a golden age for us Comic Book fans!

No joke! The past couple years in particular have been a very good time to be a geek, entertainment-wise. What do you think really started the trend of good comic-based movies? It seems to me the possibly the first Blade movie kind of started the ball rolling with decent quality comic movies.

Anyway, Avengers will be getting my $6.75 tomorrow at noon. Can't wait!

I finally got to go see it; played hooky from work for a few hours. That was by far the BEST super hero movie I have ever seen. Action from start to stop, good character interaction, and really funny. I am taking the kids this weekend.

I think what really "got the ball rolling" was Brian Singer's first X-Men movie. He treated Superheroes with respect and as serious drama. Think of the very first scene in the movie...it starts with Magneto in the Nazi death camps.

Earth 2 Chris
May 10, '12, 5:04 AM
^I'd say X-Men too. Blade was good, but it wasn't much of a stretch from a B-horror/action film, and the property wasn't well known. When Singer made X-Men, this was after the stink of Batman and Robin only three years earlier too.

I didn't realize they were that close together. That is a fast turn-around! You guys are probably right--Singer's X-Men really did change things a lot. For one thing, good directors started to get involved and didn't feel comic-themed movies were beneath them.

It was a fun flick...my fave is Downey as Iron Man...then Ruffalo as the Hulk...then Thor...I thought Captain America was the most boring of the main superhero bunch (he is too serious...but he did assert himself as the leader though).

The Black Widow is fine as heck...and Hawkeye was actually a nice surprise...he was pretty baddazz with that bow and arrow.

Nick Fury was fine.

Loki made a great villain...the actor plays him perfectly, lol.

P.S. I felt sad for the SHIELD agent who Loki killed...I forgot his name...but that was the saddest scene in the movie.

Cap was Cap. Evans nails the character. He's supposed to be serious. He has a sense of humor (he joked with Thor about being tired) but he's not an ironic, snarky hipster like Stark, and shouldn't be. I wouldn't want them to ever make Cap like Stark.

I was actually relieved that Evans got to portray the character as he established him in First Avenger. EVERYONE was in character. No small feat.

The Avengers overseas box office take:

Its only major openings this weekend came in Russia and China, where it took first place with $17.9 million and $17.4 million, respectively. Neither of these are close to record-setting levels, though that shouldn't take away from how impressive they are either. Including Monday, the highest-grossing territories for The Avengers are the United Kingdom ($54 million), Mexico ($40.7 million), Brazil ($33.9 million), Australia ($33.2 million), and South Korea ($31.8 million). The only top tier market left to open is Japan, which will unleash The Avengers in August.

Around-the-World Roundup: 'Avengers' Dominates Again - Box Office Mojo (http://boxofficemojo.com/news/?id=3439&p=.htm)

It seems like Mexico can compete with some First World countries in terms of movie theater going...nearing England's box office numbers...and more than larger countries such as Brazil, Russia...and China.

Go Mexican geeks...go!

Look at the interrogation scene from TDK compared to the one from
CA:TFA.

To me that sums up Marvel's movie superiority in a neat little nutshell.

A couple secondary characters that aren't even comicbook stalwarts
giving Batman and the Joker a run for their money.

Amazing.

I read about the Iron Man 3 rumor. He still might be alive because, if you remember, Coulson's death was confirmed off-screen. Or, story-wise, it might be flashbacks. The Vision idea is new to me though. I think that would be a cool idea.

Seeing Batman and the Joker in an Interrogation Room was awesome...
I just thought the other scene was written better.

If you're a Joker fan... you'd have to be nuts not to enjoy that scene.

Just thought I'd give a nod ;)

The thing that makes the interrogation scene in CA:TFA work so well, besides being well written, is the deadpan delivery by Tommy Lee Jones. He has a whole lot of crazy behind his eyes and he controls it so well that it's frequently hard to draw a bead on whatever character he's playing, so I'm sure the Hydra flunkie he was questioning didn't know what the hell to make of him!

Not necessarily...Japan has never been that big on American superhero movies.

Compare Mexico, England, and Japan box office takes for the following superhero flicks:

Oh no, don't say that. I work at the movies! I've been on vacation since it came out but I'm back to work tomorrow!

Avengers is one kick-arse film. I don't think I have ever laughed, clapped, and pumped my fist in utter geek-Heaven, as much as I did here. You can check daily on the Box Office Mojo site...

Box Office Mojo (http://boxofficemojo.com/)

It has reached one billion...passing the Dark Knight.

The new opening of Burton/Depp Dark Shadows was no match for The Avengers this weekend....lol.

Next week Battleship opens. Perhaps that one finally overtakes The Avengers?

Battleship will pass Dark Shadows easily though.

Battleship looks like a fun flick...I'm going to check it out...lol.

emeraldknight47
May 13, '12, 4:54 PM
I was thinking that BATTLESHIP might give THE AVENGERS a run, but after seeing THE AVENGERS, I'm thinking it may slow THE AVENGERS B.O. momentum a bit, but likely will not overtake it simply due to the fact that, IMHO, a lot of what you see in BATTLESHIP, you see IN THE AVENGERS, only along with the chaos and destruction, you get humour, superheroes and a HULK!!! I will be curious to see what impact BATTLESHIP has on our heroes, though...

I finally saw the Avengers yesterday with my wife and kids. I loved it and so did my kids! It didn't appeal to my wife in the least. But then again, she's not into superheroes, either. I'm still laughing about the scene when Tony Stark asks Bruce Banner how he keeps himself from becoming upset. The list of reasons he suggests were hilarious.

I got to see it, but I have to say that I felt all of the individual movies leading up to Avengers were all better stories. I enjoyed the movie, but I do have to say that I am a bit mistified at the crazy box office take. Don't know why, but the last half of the film reminded me very much of the last act of Whedon's Serenity movie, so I guess I didn't leave the theatre thinking "wow".
