    Department Stores Extinction

There was a local chain called Towers that went out of business a couple of decades ago. Found that it has a website!

Episodes of Degrassi were shot there.

I have that Beany--a neighbor of ours gave it to me in the 1970s. It had belonged to her son in the 1960s. The propeller was gone, and the voice box was garbled, but I always loved it because of the fact it was a gift.

I like that figure and castle set. The western is pretty cool to.

Wish there was as much thought put into toy display now as there was back then. I guess there real isnt anything really for the stores to proudly display as there was back then.

I remember towers department stores very well, I got all my Judge Dredd comics in 2-packs there as a kid. Another department store I miss is S&R. Ours was 4 floors (although each floor was rather small) and for some reason (kid logic) it was more fun to use the elevator to each floor than the stairs.

Oh yeah, I remember Towers. When I was a kid, we went to the one in Niagara Falls all the time. Then around 20 years ago it turned into a Zellers. Now that will probably be closing pretty soon (I don't think it is one of the Zellers stores that will become a Target). Extinction indeed.

Towers was a big part of my youth, all my clothes, shoes, toys came from there and Consumers Distributing(toys only). I spent alot of time there as my Mother loved and still luvs to shop : ). Great place to go as a kid. I remember all the MX style motocross bicycles they had there, I think I sat on all of them everytime I went there. Thank you for this site, luv it!

A lot of my toys as a child came from Time Square Stores (TSS), which were in New York only so I've just read.

I grew up on the west side of Michigan, but had family over in the metro Detroit area. Once a year, we made that magical trip to Hudson's. 25 floors of shopping! I actually cried the day the building was destroyed.
