Watched a new History Channel series called "Sold" last night that features an auction house, the auction process, etc.

Thoughts if you watched it? I hated it. Way too much time spent trying to be funny which wasn't working instead of the actual items. I have been to plenty of auctions and would be completely turned off by the way this particular auction house operates. They essentially spread their staff around amongst the crowd and when a bidding war takes place; a staff member will stand by each member and encourage them to keep bidding. Personally, would drive me crazy having someone standing next to me trying to peer pressure me into continuing to bid on an item that exceeded my limit.

Also a bit disappointed in the new American Restoration season. I always liked the show and watching the transformation of turning an item that needed some TLC into a fully functioning brand new item. It seems like this season; Rick is complaining about how difficult the restoration requests are, the time pressures, etc....which he never really did in previous seasons. If the restoration was easy; they wouldn't take it to his shop. I guess they are trying to turn it into a drama rather than stick to the basic formula of seeing something interesting coming in for restoration and watching it take place.

My wife and I have the same complaints about American Restoration. We also don't like how they make some of their employees out as incompetent. I don't think I'd want to take a prized object to Rick just to have his idiot son and buddy destroy it as they tear it down.

You might be thinking of Auction Kings. There's too many of these shows now. Heck even The Travel Channel is getting on this garbage with that one about auctioning off unclaimed bags from airports.

I thought the same thing about the in your face approach they use at the auction house.

I know I recognize that auctioneer for sure , he's been on tv before

Just like that new show that's coming out with the airport luggage auction...the main dude is the guy who American Pickers Mike and Frank took the circus banner art to in NY and the couple on the show are the ones who Barry from storage wars always takes his stuff to be appraised

all these people are connected :smiley1:
