The human adventure is just beginning...

Star Trek : The Motion Picture holds a special place in my heart but the rack toys don't hold a candle to the cool stuff companies like AHI put out for the original series. AHI made a myriad phaser guns, flying enterprises and parachuting spocks, Larami gave us ...wallets.

Wallets that are exactly the same in every way to the Buck Rogers, CHiPs and Mighty Mouse Wallets they produced that year. Although two points to Larami for using all those cool aliens developed for the first film on the packaging. I particularly like the ensign that looks like Steven Wright.

And yes, I do own this and have contemplated using it in regular life.

That wallet is more exciting than the movie.

The first original movie was not all that bad. Esp if one watches the newer restored version that came out about 5 plus yrs ago. it still beats most of these new movie crap that movie studios try to pass off as movies nowadays.

I'm fond of the first movie, I watched it last night on Bluray.

It's easily dismissed as it's long in tooth and a little too ponderous but I remember getting caught in the hype of it as a kid, the toys, the (IMO great) Marvel comics series, it really got me.

I honestly can't remember much about TMP, but the merch was sweet back in the day.

VINTAGE STAR TREK MOTION PICTURE LUNCH BOX +THERMOS PURPLE HANDLE FLIP'n'SIP | eBay

One of my fondest memories is getting the happy meal box... Can't remember what the toy was, but I guess looking back, this was the first branded Happy Meal as they transitioned from the previously free Treat of the Week giveaways.

eBay - New & used electronics, cars, apparel, collectibles, sporting goods & more at low prices

I was just about to point out that the film being the first happy meal movie tie in probably did wonders for me.

I don't really care much for the first movie (even though I do have a letterbox set of the original 6 films plus Generations), but it did spawn some cool merchandise, like new Power records! And don't even get me started on the Star Trek Happy Meal. That to me was the beginning of the end for McDonaldland and the magic that McDs used to be.
"Do you believe, you believe in magic?
'Cos I believe, I believe that I do,
Yes, I can see I believe that it's magic
If your mission is magic your love will shine true."

My sister got me the TMP directors cut DVD for Christmas this year. I need to watch it.

I've always liked that lunch box, but man, Nimoy needs to lay off the eye shadow!!!

Thanks Brian, I will now forever watch the movie and think of the "ensign that looks like Steven Wright." I cannot stop giggling in front of my computer.

I still have the Phaser Water Pistol. One of the best phaser toys ever made for that era.
