View Full Version : Mego Meet Customs Auction

It's time to open the floor for submissions. I've already spoken with a few who have committed some really nice pieces. I will do my best to keep up and offer some fun Brick Mantooth/Super Collector items. We are still planning the schedule for Saturday; I'll post once we've set the exact auction time. As always, meet attendees will be able to bid in-person. Christopher Noon has graciously agreed to be our auctioneer again this year, which allows for some great promotion and online bidding as well.
Please post pics of your items here, and contact me if you have any questions. I'll touch base with everyone who makes a donation to arrange for getting the customs to Mego Meet and then on to their new owners.
Proceeds will go toward bandwidth and other costs associated with operating the Mego Museum.

Great news. The addition of a professional auctioneer really added to the experience, and the entertainment value as well. One of my favourite moments was how he completely won over the reluctant wife of a MM member bidding.. to the point where She started placing bids as well!

Megospidey's submission: The Monster Cereal Guys
These are just the prototypes. There will be some changes to the final product, but this will give you a very good idea. Each will come with a miniature cereal box with a surprise inside!

Looking forward to seeing these up close, Derek. I am making a figure that has never been attempted in Mego scale before, and it's a very, very popular character. I may soon find out why it's never been done, but I'm going for it...

I am making around 7 sets of these. 1 for the auction, 1 for my card maker  and the other 5 sets to take with me to Mego Meet.
I will probably sell 2 or 3 sets together and break the others up and sell them individiually.
Any sets or figures that don't sell at the meet I will offer here first before I go to ebay.

Totally awesome Derek. :2thumbsup: Very nice as mentioned previously. :cool_y: Especially nice of you for the donation. :cool_y:
What do you mean though any figures that don't sell? Are you kidding me? :smiley1: These should be an easy sell out IMO.

Thanks! We had a great time, and I'm glad to hear you enjoyed it too. We're definitely looking forward to seeing everyone again at this year's meet.

I don't have 12 customs for the auction either but one that is 12 inches tall. The third of the 1/6th trilogy, Arthur is ready for Wheeling.

Beautiful 5th panel custom box donated by Toyroom.

Head is modified from a 12 inch figure and cast in resin. The suit is pleather that has been dyed. Kind of makes him look like he has just come up from the depths. Hands are cast in green. Buckle in yellow. Fins are vinyl.

My contribution, Teeny Robin mark 2. Lion Rock sized figure so he looks short next to the Bat-Man.

Mine is going to be a game time decision. I'm trying to make something never done before in Mego scale and keep the Megoish vibe cause the source material is the furthest thing from traditional Mego. If that sounds hard, then I agree. The custom itself isn't too difficult but converting what I want to 8-inches of clothed action figure is daunting. At least to me it is.
And I'll go on record now that Austin donated the head for this. Much appreciated, bro.

Wow! I can't believe all the talent of the Museum members.
I'm going to have to bring more cash!
These are over the top customs! Perhaps the best assortment I have seen for Mego Meet.
Just out of how many there are, bidders will have to pick and choose possibly netting the buying a great price. -But don't hesitate to bid high - after all you support the museum in addition to getting the figure for your winning bid.

Okay, finally I have something to show. My first plan, which Austin donated a head for, didn't work out as I'd hoped. The character gave me fits so I'll have to shelve that project for a future date. I'll still offer it up for auction style for the Museum's benefit, it's just not at a point where it needs to be.
On to plan B... Black Adam. He's one of my favorite comic characters and of course, being a raving Alex Ross fanboy, I went Ross style on the figure and cardback. I know RA did their own Black Adam(I'm still looking for one), but I'm hoping a few here will dig this version too.
After much introspection and soul searching, I've decided to do a go forward with a pick a figure this year as well. I ran into major complications with last year's figure, and I originally planned to pass on it for 2012. What I'd like to do is create a character with the winner. You and I will work on your own creation, your own character and I'll bring it to Mego life. I want you to have a custom that is uniquely yours. Of course I'll do an existing figure, but I think making something completely new would be more fun.

We're looking forward to seeing everyone again in just one more week!
We hope to see many of you, but if you can't make it to the meet, or if you just want to get a sneak-peak at the Custom Auction, the gallery is now LIVE at TheBigToyAuction - Bid Live on the Action Figures, Modern Toys, and Collectibles YOU WANT! (http://thebigtoyauction.com/Megomeet.html).
Once again, we will be streaming the Auction event LIVE from the meet, so you can listen in from home. You'll even have the chance to bid right from your computer and take home some of these amazing pieces.
Best of luck, and see you soon!

Hey Steve,
No problem. We were planning on offering these two lots together anyway. We keep them as separate lots until then to increase exposure.
Getting excited about it!

Where is the information on the bidding process?
If you're planning on attending Megomeet, we'll go over everything there right before the auction.
If you can't make it, and would like to bid from home, you can do so through the link we've set up at TheBigToyAuction - Bid Live on the Action Figures, Modern Toys, and Collectibles YOU WANT! (http://TheBigToyAuction.com/Megomeet.html).
There you can click through the catalog, and if you see items you would like to bid on, you can click through and the system will give you more information on how to leave absentee bids, or how to bid LIVE with us on the day of the sale.
There are also buttons there to share on Facebook and Twitter to spread the word and help us raise even more money for the museum.
If you have any other questions in the meantime, please let me know.
Thanks, and we look forward to seeing you there!
