    Blow me down....

One of the things that drove me to write a book about Rack Toys is the unintentional hilarity that seems to stem from it. Case in point, this set which connects a license to something it really shouldn't.

Popeye seems to have a lot of this going on. I am sure that he gets a haircut from time to time, I am also sure it's been seen in the strip, however it still doesn't make this toy anymore sensical.

Kudos to the people at Larami for depicting a Popeye contemplating a shave on the card art, that ties up all loose ends, thank you.

This is only the beginning with me and Popeye, it could be an entire chapter (and likely will be)

You just know when he sat in the barber chair, the barber was really Brutus/Bluto, and he tried to decapitate Popeye, so he could have Olive to himself. See, this stuff writes itself...

It makes sense really. There is that one cartoon where Popeye and Bluto where trying everything to get a shave and a haircut because Olive wanted " a clean shaven man."

Maybe a boat? What else would be appropriate toys for Popeye? Spinach-flavored gum? Blech!

Isn't Popeye THE most marketed character ever? I remember reading an article about that a year or two back, but can't remember where.

Popeye spinach is still sold at grocery stores. I'm really surprised there hasn't been a new Popeye animated series or CG movie yet.

                            "I'm strong to the finish
                            'Cos I eats me spinach
I'm Popeye the Sailor Man" (toot-toot!)

I love Popeye. As a kid I had this story record, and a Captain's hat, and wore both of them out. I did find that record again, along w/ a Talking View Master gift set I had as a kid, that included a Popeye reel. (as a kid, it was the first reel that was worn out!)
"Do you believe, you believe in magic?
'Cos I believe, I believe that I do,
Yes, I can see I believe that it's magic
If your mission is magic your love will shine true."

I'm surprised that when Pez made their Popeye, they didn't make spinach flavored Pez.
