    Resin head questions....

    All,

Might you know the following few questions regarding resin heads?

    1. What is the best way to trim the neck plug to fit in a mego-style chest piece? I have great fear damaging the product using brute force! I find that using a real old school Mego one that has more give is easier... It there a "best way" to fit them in doc's or even CTVT ones?

    2. What types of paints are best for painting the resin heads?

    Much thanks!

    Greetings,

I'm just starting on doing 1/9th scale customs so I am no help on the neck situation, although I have seen posts were the plug has been removed from a head (damaged or otherwise) and glued onto the new head to ease placing in the body of the figure.

I use acrylics that I buy at MICHAELS (local arts and craft store). There is a wide variety and the cost is relatively inexpensive. They also work well with an airbrush. Make sure you have a good primer coat on the head and then paint away.

    Hope this helps.

One way is to dremel (or sand off) any excess... When it's fit to the right size, you can always heat up the torso in boiling water to soften the plastic and the head should pop in pretty easily...

You could also just trim the neck hole to the right size...

Dremel and/or exacto blade both work.

Reaper paints, and the "Formula P3" stuff you get at some game stores is good too.

Reaper appears to be hard to come by in Seattle. The places that usually carry Reaper have decided not to and go with Citadel aka Games Work Shop Paint. I can't find P3 anywhere around these parts unless I order online.

I agree with Jason on the quality of the paint from citadel. One coat and smooth compared to the acrylic paints from Folk Arts or Americana. However I use both and sometimes water down the Acrylic paints if it's too thick.
