Before yesterday, there was 1 of these up for auction. As of today, there have been 28 listed. 4 have sold between yesterday and today. People suck sometimes.

He was slightly taller in real life.
Is it ruthlessness, insensitivity or just good sense? I don't imagine anyone who knew him personally is out shopping on eBay for Davy Jones dolls, and I suppose most of those looking today are after mementos, so it seems like a reasonable time to sell.
Profiteering? Capitalism.

I actually think its worse to buy these things now then to sell. In a week you'll wonder what the hell you were thinking when you bought it. Also these dolls are flat out terrible to begin with. Over the summer I found them at a flea market and passed on them. Most times they can be had for at most $15 but usually only sell for $5
On a related note, I've got a bunch of prayer cards from the funerals of Joe DiMaggio, Frank Sinatra, Princess Diana and other funeral items from famous folks who have passed. Over the years I've sold a few here and there but it just plain creepy to deal in that kind of stuff.
I actually bought 4 or 5 of them, NOS still in the unopened boxes, last year. They were under $20 each with free shipping. The complete set does bring decent money IF they are NOS or close to it. I actually had a feeling this was going to happen.
:ugh_y:
I do have a small collection of vintage Monkees stuff so I have a pretty good idea what many items sold for prior to Davey's passing. Sorry to see people using this to try and make extra money on items but that is eBay for you.

It happens every time someone famous passes who had a toy. I'm at the point where it doesn't even bother me any more because I've seen it so many times with wrestlers.

Well, if you are in the business to sell things, then it makes sense. It's a known fact that demand for stuff rises followed by the death of somebody. It's giving people what they want.
I had a Davy Jones pin in my Etsy store. It was was in there for a few months. I joked and said I should raise the price from $5 to $10....
While I said that, somebody bought it. Less than an hour after the news broke.

yea it sucks...I'll admit I did it when MJ died and I still regret it to this day...:embarassed:
It was at it's worst right after 9-11. I remember eBay was pulling auctions as fast as they could. Idiots putting up auctions for "pieces of the towers that my friend just rushed in with" and it was as tasteless as you can get.

Original. Not a fan of re-issues on the whole.

I personally don't think there's anything immoral or unethical in either buying nor selling items associated with a celebrity after they die.

Agreed.
It's not like we are related to them or anything.
I don't know any of these people personally...so it really doesn't affect me either way.
As long as we don't make fun of them...but selling and buying...well...that's part of people being in the public eye.
To me, a celebrity is just that...a celebrity.

That's totally different...and yes...extremely tasteless.

Since whitney houston died, you can't go to a store without seeing all of her CD's and Movies on one shelf for sale. This was seen in target and Best buy. two of the biggest chain stores out there!
the plain reality is that in today's standard it is all about the dollar! and how many you can acquire.
The 9/11 incident is completely different and very tasteless.

Add Wal-Mart to the list of CD aisles freshly lined with Whitney Houston discs.
IT's just a part of life... and death.

i know there's nothing wrong it with....but it seems like people just take advantage of it... like me for instance, when MJ died I had a couple of the LJN dolls, one mine from when I was a kid and the other I had just gotten loose nude in another lot..I threw him on ebay for $75!!! and it sold in 2 seconds :embarassed: while I was happy with the money I felt guilty

Put it in perspective, Damien.
What was $75 to MJ?
Exactly.
