    We are not alone

These rubber bendy figures by Imperial are some of the few bits of merchandise that Close Encounters recieved and they certainly served a purpose to me as a kid.

Mostly because I was incredibly curious as to how the aliens looked in the film.

I'm not sure they were big sellers however, I seem to recall these hung on shelves at my local "Dominion Playworld" until it closed it's doors in 1983.

I remember seeing those a lot in the stores, although I never owned one.

I still occasionally run across these in the wild. They were around en mass of years after the film at drug stores, Lionel Playworld, and Children's Palace. Oddly, I never knew about the Ben Cooper costume until the eBay days.

I still have two from my childhood. They were my tag team champions named "The UFO's".

I had a brown eyed one and blue eyed one.

They should've made a bendy Richard Dreyfuss too....

Interesting piece of film merchandising. I would grab it if I saw one of these at the fleas now.

Looks like one of the Venture Brothers escaped the cloning tank early.

Heh, I picked up one of those on clearance for 99 cents when I was a kid. It was cool to get a good look at an alien from that film. I have to admit that I didn't give the toy too much respect though. I remember throwing him up onto the roof of our house, where he remained for about two years.
