Any word on if this line is still going to happen?
If so, is there any date as to when the first two will be available?

Well....look at it this way: There's atleast still two more Lines coming(Romulan & McCoy, and Scotty & Keeper)...and who knows if that's the end? Trek could continue on with The Neptunian, Cheron, Talosian, Uhura....maybe even NEW Figures like CHECKOV & SULU...or THE GORN? PLEASE!!!!!:drool_y:
So...I really don't think They will start with the Apes...until They've finished with Star Trek.

The apes are coming in 2008. The first two will be Cornelius and the Soldier Ape. The others have not been announced by Diamond yet so I won't mention them here.
I don't know how many figures we will be able to produce this year
due to new regulations in China. I have read that every factory will
have a government inspector on site to insure safe material standards.
Translation - more paperwork and delays and more money going
through a Homer Simpson safety inspector.:muh:
Beijing is the site of the 2008 Olympics so all eyes are on China.
Security will be very high and completely crazy.:googly:
My wife and I have been waiting a year for our second adoption
to be processed - now they say the wait time is about three years!
At least we won't be traveling during the Olympics!

Soldier Ape? I thought the original news article showed General Urko? Was there a change or did the article jump the gun?
Here's the AFI article where they mention Urko as one of the first two figures.

There has been some back and forth about the line-up.
Last I heard it was Corny and the Soldier - two great characters to lead off with -
but nothing is certain until it is in Previews.

Any two of the originals would be great to lead off with. Well, maybe except for the Astronaut.
And my mistake, the article says "Ursus" not Urko. I guess as with the original Megos they are interchangeable.

What makes you think that? I haven't seen anything saying TREK would go on past the "announced" figures?
Besides that, why would they say that APES would be released in 2008 if they knew that TREK was going to continue on?

Is there any reason why EMCE couldn't produce both lines at the same time?

There has been some back and forth about the line-up.
Last I heard it was Corny and the Soldier - two great characters to lead off with -

Truthfully, I hope it is the Soldier Ape rather than "helmet head"... Don't get me wrong, I'd like an eventual release of the helmet headed General, but as far as the Soldiers go, they're what I'm really after anyway...
If they would release a General, it'd make more sense for them to rerelease the one more commonly called Ursus, the "black faced" one, because he (or his name anyway) is from the film series and would make more sense to have all film apes released in one series... That and the fact that Ursus is better for custom fodder, as he is more versatile... You can have plenty of unhelmeted gorillas running around, but you really only need one hawkish General to lead them...
Is there any reason why EMCE couldn't produce both lines at the same time?
No, there isn't any reason at all... It'd be like saying that HASBRO can only produce GI JOE and anything else planned can't be released at that same time...
I'd guess the only thing that could prevent both flines from being released simultaneously would be technicalities in production, which Dr. Mego mentioned earlier in this thread...
I know many people want the TREK stuff to carry on and on (and understandably so), but they seem to not want APES reissued... Either they just want EMCE to focus on TREK, or they just plain don't like APES... They may say APES are as common as anything out there, but if you look at eBay, when is the last time you "haven't" seen Kirk or Spock?

I was wondering how large of a company EMCE is. It would be unfair to compare them to Hasbro. I'm picturing a very small staff with limited resources but unlimited imagination.
Captain
Jan 6, '08, 2:24 PM
If you were comparing passion, determination, and heart, EMCE blows Hasbro into the weeds!
EMCE is our own Doc Mego, and his business partner...whose name escapes me right now (sorry!). If theres more I'm sure Doc will correct me.

So just two guys? Then I could understand if they were working on only one line at a time.
Captain
Jan 6, '08, 2:39 PM
I think their workload depends more on Diamond Selects schedule and wishes. I dont know if they had any plans to do Apes until the first Trek wave sold so well, and created quite a bit of buzz among the non-Mego crowds. My local hobby and comic shops report that kids and teens bought more of the figures than old fart collectors.
Trek is doing great, and now we will have Apes too....If Apes sell as well as Trek, we may see more (and I believe the good Doctor is working on more lines as we speak).
I also believe the Trek line will be continuing on alongside the Apes line, so those guys will be working harder than ever ---If your ever hiring Paul.....;)!!

I am glad to hear that non-collectors are buying Trek figures. The kids are really
I wanted to make these figures for, so they can dig megos like we did - and do.
As for EMCE Toys - we are two guys in New York with elves in China. New
regulations are being introduced there which will impact on our production
calendar, but it shouldn't prevent us from making toys, just stretch out the
release dates. With luck, I expect to get into a good flow of product over

I dont think the matter has been avoided or ignored . Doc said it was pretty much in Diamonds hands. Ultimately they are his customer and he doesnt want to tick them off by stealing their thunder. It's frustrating, but understandable. We have to wait for the Diamond folks to make the announcements. I'm sure it's probably just as frustrating for Doc to have all of us asking him the same question over and over (I know...I'm the worst offender!) without being able to spill the beans.

Jan 7, '08, 12:42 PM
I think we get spoiled because we find things out earlier than with mainstream stuff. For example they just announced the Mister Fantastic and Torch Sig Series a week or two ago. Those have been in the works probably before the last FF movie came out but we didn't know so it won't seem so long in between the announcement and delivery. With the EMCE stuff we know much earlier what's coming. They haven't even decided on which figures so they obviously haven't started on the actual designs, and we already know they're coming in 2008. It's not that EMCE takes longer they just let us in on info earlier than the big guys do. It's nice to be kept updated and in the loop. Makes us feel important. Thanks Doc.

My next door neighbour in 1974 had all of Mego’s Planet of the Apes; I had Star Trek. Every Saturday after their respective animated series, we would play Star Trek had a transporter accident and ended up on the Planet of the Apes. When he moved away, I lost the POTA figures I loved as a kid. Now I can get new ones (and they will be of the much-preferred Type 2 bodies) I will buy at least one of everything, and as many Soldier Apes I can get my stinkin' paws on ! ! ! This is great time to be a Mego collector ! ! ! !

Good question:
As the Trek Repops are nearing the end of the announced choices still no word If there will be any NEW figures
(or even a Uhura Repop)
I'd guess everyone that "Bought a case" to help support this Line MAY be regretting it now.
But.......................thats just my opinion:grin:
Nah, I don't regret "Doing The Right Thing" by supporting the first 3 waves...I just choose not to support the line until we get something new. Simple as that. It's a little annoying that nothing new is coming out of it so far...but the one thing no one can say is that I didn't support the repro figures. I have a sealed case of wave 1 left and 1 and half cases of series 2 left to proove it. Just hope that EMCE "Does The Right Thing" and support the people that bought the figures by giving us some NEW figures.

I hope they do the right thing and do all the 1st 14 MEGO figures before they do anything new. After the 1st 14 come out, then I don't care what they do.
I just want all 1st 14 first....
There are two schools of thought on the right thing...

Why is the question or comments related to the question........ "Are new figure line extensions planned or strictly just reissues of existing figures" always avoided or ignored.
Let them get the 1st 14 reissues out first, if that is what they have planned, then they can add to the line if they want to.

I would have to respectfully say that I think your in the minority. I don't know of anyone that would prefer a gorn or uhura to a chekov or sulu.
I haven't bought any, but I would buy them all if I knew they were going to put out new characters. I'm a mego collector and these aren't mego figures. But they are cool enough to get on their own if they just differed from the originals in some way ( different uniforms, new characters).
Action Martin
Jan 12, '08, 6:55 AM
While I think it would be cool if EMCE released new figures like Sulu, Chekov, Commander Kang, Dr. Milo, Virgil, or General Aldo, I think they should stick to re-releasing the originals first.
Or perhaps release new figures as convention or store exclusives.
mars396
Jan 12, '08, 7:31 AM
why is everyone stuck on this either/or philosophy ?
why couldn't they release a repro and a new one each wave ?
Examples:
Chekov - Cheron
Sulu - Neptunian
Cornelius - Mutant
Soldier Ape - Ceasar
and so on
Action Martin
Jan 12, '08, 7:39 AM
That's a GREAT idea!
I don't think it's so much being stuck on an either/or philosophy. I think it's more that "EMCE said they were going to produce all the originals" and that's what people want. But like every action figure line we all speculate on "dream lists". And the person that already owns all of the originals would probably rather have new figures in the Mego-style.

I agree with the other poster on the mitts. Cuff the sleeves for a better look and save a little on production costs. One of the great advantages to a Doc body is that the hands can actually grip, why negate that with mitts?

Thanks what I'm talking about FallenSaviour. We all wish Mego was still around, but it isn't. Would this even be an issue if Paul or anyone else (w/ Marty Abrams blessing) started another company, called it Mego and turned out this figures? I mean really, what's in a name? These are just Mego: The Next Generation. Ok, so these aren't ORIGINAL 70's Megos. So what? Do they have less play value b/c the have the EMCE name on them and they clothing and accessories are a little different? Our Mego gallery is full of figures with different variations, so what's the difference? Is the thrill any less opening that action figure for the first time, or watching your kids play w/ these gems they way you did when you were little? I think not. These are toys to be celebrated. We have our Megos back! And we're getting MORE! And now we don't have to say "I wish my kids could experience the fun I had w/ these toys" b/c now they can! It's a great time to be a Mego collector. Buy a real mego and open it. Torches aren't too expensive. I have nothing against these figures, heck I'm gonna buy a dang romulan army BUT they are not megos. Maybe kids iwho get these in 20 years will refer to them as EMEC's.

One reason I am hoping these figures come out can be summed up in three words:
Affordable Ursus boots... (If they do repro the good general as they said said he'd be early on...)

Is $15 too much for repro Ursus boots (http://www.megodoctor.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=M&Product_Code=320&Category_Code=POTA)?

We aren't leading off with the General Ape due to Fox's input, but he is already in China to be tooled, so have patience.

Yeah, it is a little more than I'd care to pay... I guess I can't see why some of the items sold on that sight are within a reasonable price range, and some are double the price of items that, at least on the surface, it wouldn't appear to take any more time to have made...
And, BTW, what happened to those resin cats of the Zaius boots he was selling? Those are the Zaius boots I'd want, as they can at least be painted.

It's a PITA to make boots and gloves by hand. A helluva lot harder than making, say, a Thor hammer or a belt.
If you want to know about the Zauis boots, just call him.

Like Steve said...some things are more difficult to Hand cast than others. The $5.00 Boot's You see on Doc's Site...were made in China, and He had to buy Them in large quantities to sell them at that price.

I will be putting these up for order AFTER McCoy and Romulan are confirmed to ship.. which is supposedly the second week of February or so.
Is that shipped from you or China? I thought the MC and Roms were already on the water arriving in the time frame you mentioned?
Just curious.

That timeframe is when Diamond expects to ship to there distributors (ie me, Joe, Starlog, etc). Distributors get email invoices and shipping notices when they ship from the Diamond warehouse.
Also, per another post, I will not be putting any POTA figures up for sale until Diamond officially solicits for them, which they have not.

I love these figures and have quickly bought the Andorian.....but I cannot justify paying more for a repro than I would for an original off eBay. Therefore, Kirk/Spock/Klingon is out.
Looking forward to Romulan and McCoy.
I sure hope they obatin other cool Mego lines like "Muhammad Ali" or of course "Superheroes". The thoughts of finally getting a Lex Luthor Mego is unbelieveable.

I am curious (if you're at liberty to say that is), but which General will you be reproducing here? The "helmet head" or "black faced" general?

If I recall correctly the original announcement was that one of the figures would be General Urko (helmet head). So it could be him.
