I just got my shipment of Spock and the Andorian at 4pm on Jan. 2nd
and yesterday all the Starlog pre-orders were mailed out.

When I opened the first case, I was stunned. Spock has silver rank
stripes. I contacted my guy in China and gave him an earfull.

These figures have been in stores for about a week, yet no one
has said anything. Am I being too anal about this? Is this just
a cool variant?

Glad to hear they are in and out. Hope all is well with you.

I think the silver stripes are a cool variant assuming subsequent shipments are correct.

A change to spock is great because he is so readily available vintage. Now if the poor Andorian was wrong....Ouch.

I was worried that the color on the Andorian would be too bright blue or
too gray, but everyone I have looked at compares well to the original.

Silver stripes are Ok, if Gold ones do come out later. I will have to get both, of course. No Romulans with silver helmets, please. :)

A quick photo comparison:
http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y220/HiLloyd/spox.jpg

That's my own childhood Spock on the left, first found under the tree in 1978. He's packing a repaired original tricorder and an old-school Dr. Mego phaser.

I gotta say, EMCE nailed the sculpt and paint on the head. My fig is darker complected but that could just be twenty-nine years of grime. The color of the shirt, however, is distinctly lighter than the Mego version; the difference is more apparent in person than in this pic. I noticed the same thing with EMCE Kirk's canary-yellow jersey-- if this trend continues, and they get to do Scotty, he'll be wearing hot pink. :)

More seriously, an issue I hope gets addressed on future releases is the hands. On my new Kirk, Spock and Klingon, the thumb is too close to the palm for a phaser to be held upright. Not a problem for the Andorian, of course! Wow, those Mego gloves really send me back...

Okay, that's enough for a first post. Doc, I may nitpick but you and your collaborators have already achieved the impossible. Improving on that would merely be a bonus.

Is it just me or are the aliens a little bit taller then they were originally? and so far the only thing (and this is being a bit nit picky) that bothers me a bit is the insignia on the crew members its way bigger then the originals and looks more like a letter A then the curved and smaller original insignias.

Did you know that Mego was actually notorious for changing colors and even material types frequently?
It is most apparent in Green Arrows costume and Batman's cape.

I would venture that it was always far less apparent in the Star Trek line. I have vintage Klingon tunics with varying levels of texture on the front and different-colored linings on the inside, but I've never seen a sky-blue Spock/Bones shirt.

If Scotty shirt is hot pink, I'm flying to China personally to knock some heads together.

I can live with a tan Kirk, and while I'm not happy about the silver bands on Spock
and McCoy at least they match - but the chief engineer of the Enterprise is not
going to wear a pink shirt (not that there's anything wrong with that).

While I haven't received mine yet, I do have faith in Paul to do it all right. However, from the pics I noticed they are still in the clam shells. I really hope that they go to carded figures again. Those we want to rip open we rip open; those we want to keep on card, we keep on card. It makes life so much simpler, and the figs so much more Mego.

The Andorian is also visibly different. His tunic is shiny looking
compared to the original. The belts a tad different and his head paint while VERY close is still visibly different when compared to the original.

Kudos to you guys for making these just different enough from the originals
to consider them a variation rather than a direct replacement that would challenge the collectability of of all the real ones out there.
But if you don't have $300-400 to spend on the real thing, this will do nicely.

I will keep buying these to supplement my real collection as you put them out guys...even if Scotty's shirt is...dare I say it...salmon pink(yeeccchh!):googly:

I like the clamshells. As a collector who rarely leaves cool toys MOC but obsessively preserves the packaging, they're perfect for me. And they're a much more efficient design than the shells Hasbro has been using for their Star Wars retro-vintage line-- I love that the blister is built in.

I'm completely satisfied with my Andorian, and can't wait to own a Romulan.

Now let us never speak of pink shirts again! :)

Well, I got mine today. Enough praise cannot be heaped on Paul for what he is doing. He's earned much in the world of Mego and its history. These are excellent (I haven't opened them, but I doubt I have two left hands). Now, I need to get on to Starlog and see if the Romulans and McCoys are on preorder yet.

I wonder what else we can expect in the future! Wouldn't Space 1999 be nice, and hmmm Logan's Run?

I dont care if Scotty is wearing a Hawiian shirt and comes with a ukelele, just keep 'em coming Paul!! :)

...Any chance you can let the cat out of the bag and enlighten us on the future of the Trek line, as you previously alluded to in a past post?

Maybe Paul can check back here with us and let us know how the sales/interest are going with Spock and the Andorian. I'm curious to see if momentum is building in the franchise.

I can't wait to get em! I love my old Spock, but it's time for him to rest! I'll do with him I did with my Klingon, open him up and place him with the other loose Megos, and place the old-school version resting nice in a Doc Mego bubble card! Doc, you keep up the killer work man! You just keep on making me happy by doing what you do! KEEP MEGO IN THE STORES!

I currently have them all (thanks Speed) and couldn't be happier with the results and quality. It's like buying Mego's brand new all over again with the same level of quality I came to expect as a kid. I think it would be fantastic if they did the Planet of the Apes line. I would go...well...ape! :please_y:

Got mine today from NewForce. Outstanding!

Rick @ NewForce complained to DST about the thin plastic figure bubbles.. apparently most of his shipment arrived to him with some minor bubble stress/compression. The set I got has exactly that.. bubble fatigue mostly along the top right corner. Anyone else seeing likewise?

It's no big deal to me, but folks that are interested in perfect MOC specimens might be cheesed.

My local Comic Shoppe (where I acquired my two Andorians and two Spocks) showed me that while the Andorians were all unharmed, each and every Spock had a broken bubble at the feet. A big enough rip to pass the figure through.

I have a fair number of Reproductions: some CTVTs, some customs I found on eBay, and some I’ve made from Doc Mego parts. The Andorian, is, hands down, the finest Reproduction I own. Everything is spot-on.

At first I was upset with them, but Kirk’s and Spock’s shirts have really grown on me. While Kirk’s is cut too short (almost a belly shirt) the color of both is closer to what is onscreen than the originals. And I think I actually prefer spread out rank stripes (even though Spock’s are silver).
Visit my blurry cellphone camera gallery for comparison pix:
mars396pix (http://megomuseum.com/mmgallery/browseimages.php?c=3&userid=1125)

I am eager to get some Scotties, so that I can do some head swapping and have anonymous Red Shirts in my displays.
I wonder what color his shirt and rank stripes will be ?

(apparently, there is some sort of limit to the number of pictures I can upload ? I leg swapped my extra Spock and Andorian and put Spock's uniform on the result. I was attempting to make a Commander Thelin, but the angry expression is not very Thelinesque. So, he is "Andorian Science Officer" Perhaps, I will put a Red Shirt on him instead....)

Actually, on the TV show Kirk's 'standard' shirt was never the same yellow-gold color as, say, Sulu's or Chekov's. It was green-gold, but unfortunately tended to photograph as if he just hadn't washed it in a while. I understand that the new HD remasters of the old episodes have 'corrected' it back towards yellow-gold.

Okay, I'm looking over my previous posts and apparently I have some sort of shirt obsession. I gotta get some help.

Was touring the local comic and hobby shops today. They all had these figures this time (I had to do some arm twisting to get a couple of them to carry the Kirk/Klingon sets), priced from $25.00 to 30.00 a piece (ouch!---Kirk and Klingon were priced at $19.99 when that wave came out!!). Still, everybody said they were selling like crazy. The Andorian was outpacing Spock at most stores, except one local hobby shop that seems to draw kids of all ages (as opposed to some of the comic shops that only seem to draw creepy 30 somethings). they said Spock was already sold out, and he couldnt wait for his second shipment to arrive.Again, kids and teens were the big buyers at this store....the owner thought this might have something to do with Twisted Mego theater (or is it Twisted Toyfare Theater now?).....I think its because they can see there is way more play appeal in a Mego style figure, than the lifeless Art Asylum stuff.
Seems this wave is selling as well as the last...at least here in Calgary.

Got my Andorians and Spocks yesterday and have to say they are simply awesome. The quality is excellent as is the packaging design. Well done EMCE. It appears the first two releases are selling well and the Romulan release should as well IMO. Hopefully this will lead to unproduced characters making there way to mass produced toy stardom in the future. Perhaps a limited run chase figure in each sealed case!! Hint Hint!! Sulu? Chekov? Just wishing out loud. Can't wait to see the Romulan figure.

I purchased 1 case and 3 of my spocks had this problem, they were completely blown out on the bottom of the bubble. The fourth had minor cracks. Maybe I just got really unlucky.

The bubbles on the kirk/klingon packaging appears to be slighly thicker plastic. Is this a potential problem that is being looked into?

I mentioned earlier that Rick at NewForce Comics (one of DST's biggest Trek buyers) had complained to DST that the plastic thickness was unacceptable, after most of his cases had some bubble damage. Too late to make any adjustments with the next wave (already on the water), but maybe future ones.

I got my Spock and Andorian from Hulk and I'm impressed with how nicely they're constructed. I can really feel the well-built quality of of Doc's bodies. The little extra weight really makes them feel more substantial than standard Mego bodies. I was also admiring the detail in the hands on the new figures. They're better than the orignal Mego hands and put CTVT hands to shame.

Apparently the 'Spock with silver rank braid' is becoming a variant after all - there's a guy selling some (as well as the Kirk with tricorder) on ebay. I went ahead and grabbed them - they look pretty cool next to the reg figs. Just thought I'd give everyone a heads up!
