    Mattel Sunshine Family for 1978

The Sunshine Family were a series of (In my opinion, creepy) dolls marketed by Mattel beginning in 1974. At the time, the line was marketed with the family being very into the burgening "post hippie" early 70s craft movement.

By 1978, the line's look had begun to look dated so it was rebranded the "Sunshine FUN Family" (bet that was an all nighter at Mattel) and the characters were given a bit of a makeover. The Sunshine family had moved into the suburbs it seems...

I have the original versions of the Sunshine Family. I think they're cute. And the kids who come over still like to play w/ them.

I still say they are creepy, and I'm a man with a house full of his wife's Barbies. Cindy picked one of those up at a Barbie show, and I was deeply disturbed by them.

I didn't know this line survived/evolved into 1978. I remember the earlier 70s commercials jingle: "Mommy & daddy, the little baby... you can put their house together easily...Out of odds & ends you can make extra things... idea books to create more furnishings..." Stuck in my soul, man.

Thanks for more crazy nostalgic minutiae, dude!

There was something subliminally Satanic about the Sunshine Family.

Man,look at that outfit the black mother is wearing to the beach. Looks like something she should be wearing at night instead.

Yeah, I had a couple. They made me mad with how really floppy and loose their leg joints were, to the point they couldn't even stand. So if I integrated them into my Barbie play, I'd make them like cripples and invalids.

My sister had some of these. They were a hand me down from our older cousin. Definitely a little creepy.

My sister had a couple of those damn creepy things. The closest thing in my collection is my Mattel Space 1999 figures which use those same crappy bodies.

Oddly enough. These have been popping up at the thrifts lately. Another forgotten toy line. People must be emtying the attics and cant figure who these dolls are. I also noticed an off shoot of this line that was more historically based. Probably made around 1976 when we all got patriotic. If only I could remember the name of that line???

Star Spangled Dolls! I just looked that up. Even though I had two of them, I had no idea what they were called until just now...
