It's the end of my soap guys...today will air the last episode ever :embarassed: I'm so depressed...I know many will make fun of it, but to me it's been a show I've really enjoyed, I hate ABC now :7:

I remember my wife used to watch "Days of our Lives". She used to tape them and watch them at the end of a work day. After a few episodes; it drove me crazy. I remember they would drag story lines on for years.

My Mom was always a CBS Soap watcher; The Young and the Restless, As the World Turns, etc. I guess Y&R is still running, but soaps are a dying breed. Shame to see such an institution die off, even though I never got into them besides just kind of passing through the house.

I wonder if "GH" will be next up on the chopping block for ABC...

i doubt it, they're spinning off one life to live characters into Gh now so that they don't lose fans...alot of people are upset and they fear the ratings will go way down...so by mixing both soaps somewhat they're trying to bring that audience back

Lol... I thought it was just me. I've been watching that show since the 1984. I don't watch any others, but that one got my interest and I've been with them ever since. There's gonna be a lot of space on my Tivo now... :ugh_y:

I've been with my wife 22 years, and for all that time, her VCR has recorded the block of AMC/OLTL..

..so she's pretty bummed too. :crying:

Yeah my wife is also sad to see these shows getting axed. It really is the end of an era.

Hey Da, I regret to hear that your show is going off the air man. It looks like they are axing the soaps left and right lately. :shocked2: I definitely know what it is like to enjoy a show and then see it taken off before your very eyes. That is all the more reason why I try not to get to involved in any tv programs.

I do not really watch them a lot per say although I did watch Y&R and General Hospital with the girlfriend RIP. She really loved those type of shows.

The shows were not too bad of shows actually. I was just never real big into the TV magnet myself. While watching some of the other shows with her I even seen characters come from other soaps that got axed. I told her that was going to happen eventually regarding the actors and actresses crossing over on different shows at some point. That is a great idea. It would be a shame for those talented people to just lose their jobs when they can have an opportunity to go to another show.

I do not know what the future of television holds. I do know that it is rapidly changing. I am not sure if that is a good or bad thing yet. Only time will tell I guess.

Just look at in on the bright side Da, Now you have an extra 30 minutes back in your life for something else.

Dont really understand the reasoning of cancelling the soaps. They are fairly low budget with a good following. Its not like theres really anything to replace them with.

Was never a huge fan of OLTL; more of a GH fan, myself. Vintage, GH, that it. I remember watching it back in the mid-eighties when they were doing things on that show that no one ever DREAMT of doing on a daytime soap opera! I mean, "freezing" Port Chuck in the dead of summer (and actually making it interesting)? Of course, they also had a lot of help from the cast working at the time; Anthony Geary and Genie Francis as Luke and Laura, Tristan Rogers and Finola Hughes as Robert and Anna Scorpio!! Those were the days! (Sorry, don't mean to hijack the OLTL thread for a reminiscence of GH!). PLUS, PLUS----they even had everyone's favorite ST:TOS Klingon playing the Grand Poobah of the Cassadine clan (he was the one trying to freeze Port Charles)!

I wasn't sure if it was 30 minutes or an hour. That shows (no pun intended) how much I know. :smiley1: Either way it looks like you will still be utilizing that hour in the future. :cool_y:

"MAYBE" GH will be even better for you now since they are taking in some of the cast from the show that you did like.

That is totally cool and I for one can definitely respect that. :cool_y: That is kind of how it was with me and my gal. I started out doing it just for her.

Truthfully, After watching them for some time and getting to know the characters and the story lines some of the shows really was not that bad at all. If I happened to miss an espisode she would inform me of what had happened to keep me in the loop. :smiley1:

Sorry to see a show you like end. I was never much into them, but my aunt loves watching the soaps. I guess the reality shows have gotten the best of this genre, too.

:cool_y: It was kind of tough for me to get adjusted at first. Then after I seen some of the hot chicks I went ahead and happily watched and just pretended that I did not like to watch them with her. :smiley1:

I'm not sure. Once All My Children got the ax,I don't think anything is safe. I mean even having Oprah as a fan couldn't save it.

My wife and mother in law made "an event" of the last broadcast. There were. laughs, there were tears, there were I told you so's and can you believe that's. As a writer (believe it or not) I appreciate the soaps. Not everyone or any staff can pull off decades worth of storyline.

So sad to see an era end but so it goes. I personally am very curious to see how they bridge some of the characters over to General Hospital.
